Scarlet Witch & Doctor Strange Battle In Multiverse of Madness Teased By Star

Elizabeth Olsen teases Scarlet Witch’s fight with Doctor Strange in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Benedict Cumberbatch returns to the MCU after Spider-Man: No Way Home via his own sequel film. This time, however, he is joined by Wanda Maximoff, who is fresh from the Maximoff Anomaly in WandaVision.

When Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness was announced in 2019, Marvel Studios also confirmed that it will co-star Olsen’s sorceress. At that point, fans were still unaware of the events of WandaVision, which effectively set Wanda down a dark path after she learned the truth about being Scarlet Witch. The fact that she also got a hold of the Darkhold and was studying it during her self-imposed exile makes her appearance in Sam Raimi’s Doctor Strange 2 more interesting. While the specifics regarding the two magic wielders’ relationship are still under wraps, it’s clear that, ultimately, they will butt heads.

In Empire Magazine‘s feature for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Olsen teases what to expect from Doctor Strange and Wanda’s interactions, including their fight scenes. While both partook in the fight against Thanos (Josh Brolin) in Avengers: Endgame, they didn’t meet — at least not on screen. Read Olsen’s full comment below:

“I really was excited to do dialogue with him. I really enjoyed our constant conversation, of analysis and trying to understand where both characters are coming from.”

There was actually a scrapped scene in Avengers: Endgame where Doctor Strange and Wanda were supposed to team up. It’s uncertain why it was deleted, but it makes the pair’s first interaction on screen in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness so much more exciting. Unfortunately, fans shouldn’t expect the pair to team up. Based on what’s been revealed thus far about the upcoming Marvel Studios film, the pair will clash, with Scarlet Witch pointing out why she’s vilified for breaking the law, while Doctor Strange is praised for it. Whether or not the movie will see them eventually team up against a bigger threat is currently unknown, especially considering that Wanda appears to really be embracing her villainous side.

Aside from Wanda and Doctor Strange’s dynamic, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness has a lot of other exciting things to look forward to. That includes the impending debut of Xochitl Gomez’s America Chavez. It will also see Patrick Stewart’s return as Professor X, not to mention the potential debut of MCU’s Illuminati. Finally, the blockbuster will also properly establish the concept of the multiverse in the MCU. Spider-Man: No Way Home gave fans an idea of what storytelling possibilities this could mean for Marvel Studios, but Raimi’s film could fully allow the franchise to pull from other non-MCU narratives.
