Saw X Producer Responds To Banned Parody Of Nicole Kidman’s AMC Commercial

Saw X producers Oren Koules and Mark Burg have responded to the banned parody of Nicole Kidman’s AMC commercial that was created prior to the film’s release. The video featured Billy the Puppet narrating about the importance of Jigsaw’s traps in a spoof on Kidman’s AMC movie intro, where she discusses the importance of the movie theater. Not long after the video’s release, it was taken down, sparking some confusion as to where it went.

Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Koules and Burg confirmed what happened to the Saw X parody of Kidman’s AMC commercial. They indicate the video was not received well by AMC, which may be the reason why it was taken down. Check out what Koules and Burg had to say below:

Koules: It’s like Voldemort. It’s the Thing That Shall Not Be Named.

Burg: It was 100 percent the genius of the marketing team at Lionsgate. It’s a shame that AMC did not share our joy in it.

Why The Saw X Parody May Have Been Taken Down

Saw X Producer Responds To Banned Parody Of Nicole Kidman’s AMC Commercial

Saw X‘s AMC parody video captured the essence of the franchise while also poking fun at the theater chain’s well-known introduction starring Kidman. However, it’s likely AMC didn’t want that same introduction being twisted into something associated with a gory horror series. Although the video falls under fair use because of its status as a parody, it’s understandable why the team behind the movie decided to take it down.

This isn’t the first time the latest film in the horror franchise has been associated with something for general audiences. The movie released alongside the children’s film PAW Patrol: The Mighty Movie, leading to some calling the dual release “Saw Patrol.” This resulted in speculation that Saw Patrol could be the next Barbenheimer. The Saw Twitter account played into this idea in August, redesigning a PAW Patrol maze activity sheet as a Jigsaw trap.

While it’s not ideal that such an interesting crossover video was taken down, Koules and Burg clearly want to respect AMC’s wishes. Since the characters in Saw X get tortured quite brutally, it makes sense AMC wouldn’t want their recognizable movie intro to be reworked for the film. Hopefully this doesn’t deter the team behind the movie from embracing other uses of parody to advertise any future movies in the franchise.
