Saw X producer Oren Koules has addressed the possibility of Saw 11 as the upcoming movie seeks to revive the main franchise. The last main entry in the gory horror series was Jigsaw in 2017, taking place 10 years after the first seven films. While a ninth movie, titled Spiral, was released in 2021, the film was considered a spinoff set in the same universe. The newest movie will be the first time John Kramer has appeared in a Saw film in six years.
Speaking with Comicbook.com, Koules revealed there are ideas for Saw 11 to follow the upcoming Saw X after its release. However, Koules also emphasized the importance of focusing on the newest film for right now in order to tell John’s story. Check out what Koules had to say below:
We’re kind of superstitious. We tend not to get too far ahead of ourselves. The movie’s going to be released in a few days. For us, we do have ideas for the next one, we haven’t put pent to paper. But this is his story, we really wanted it to be John Kramer’s story and tell a John Kramer story. So for the first 30 minutes of the movie, he’s John Kramer, you don’t have any hint of Jigsaw.
What Would Saw 11 Look Like?
Even though it’s the 10th installment in the franchise, the latest film takes place between the events of Saw and Saw II. Saw X will see John as a hero, seeking revenge against scam artists that tricked him into attempting a miracle cure for his cancer. Alongside Tobin Bell’s return as John, Shawnee Smith will also be reprising her role as Amanda from various other entires in the franchise.
Since the latest Saw movie will be taking place near the start of the franchise’s timeline, a follow-up could theoretically take place at any point on the timeline. Saw 11 could be a sequel to Jigsaw, following Logan Nelson as he continues John’s work in the present day. John himself could also return in another installment, one that takes place within the same timeframe as Saw X.
No matter how another film in the series would play out, the Saw movies have always been known for adding new context to the franchise’s ever-expanding backstory. This means that, if another film were to happen after Saw X, it would need to continue the story using the same model of twists the other films have relied on. For now, it’s clear the major focus is on telling a compelling story about Jigsaw when the next entry arrives on September 29, 2023.
