Samsung Galaxy S21 FE Retail Listing Is A Bit Of A Price Shock

Samsung Galaxy S21 FE Retail Listing Is A Bit Of A Price Shock

Adding more volume to the recent flood of Samsung Galaxy S21 FE leaks, an online electronics store has now prematurely listed the upcoming ‘Fan Edition’ phone alongside details of its pricing for the UK and other markets in Europe. Just a few days ago, the whole product brochure of Samsung’s next offering made its way online, revealing almost everything about its design and key specifications.

Starting with the aesthetics, it looks almost identical to the standard Galaxy S21, save for the uniform color profile on the rear panel instead of the two-tone finish on its pricier flagship sibling. The screen is flat and there’s a center-aligned hole-punch to house the selfie camera, a design Samsung has been marketing as an Infinity-O display. Unfortunately, Samsung has reportedly nixed the microSD card slot from its next budget flagship, but wireless charging support is part of the package.

LambdaTek — which serves customers in markets like France, the UK, and Germany among others — has now prematurely listed the Galaxy S21 FE ahead of its rumored launch in January. The model number (SM-G990) mentioned in EU and UK listings matches with the numbers seen in support documents on the official Samsung support database. However, the pricing is not good news. For the EU market, the higher-end model has been listed at around €940 after taxes, which translates to around $1,065 based on the current conversion rates. For the base configuration, customers will have to shell out around €880, which equates to roughly $1,000. For those living in the UK, LambdaTek has listed the pricing of Galaxy S21 FE versions at £737.86 (approximately $990) and £790.20 (around $1,070) respectively. The prices on the online storefront have changed slightly ever since the listings were first spotted by MySmartPrice.

A Fan Edition That Might Not Win Many Fans

For the sake of comparison, the Galaxy S20 FE hit shelves last year carrying a price tag of $699. The Galaxy S21 FE should go up against the likes of the iPhone 13 and the Google Pixel 6, but if the retail listings are accurate, the chances of emerging as a value proposition for buyers are looking slim for the upcoming Samsung phone. However, currency conversions don’t always paint an accurate picture and the final price might actually be lower if Samsung is serious about selling the device. As for the phone’s innards, it will reportedly be offered in two variants based on the chip powering it — Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 or the in-house Exynos 2100.

The Galaxy S21 FE is also understood to arrive featuring a 6.4-inch OLED display with Full-HD+ (1080 x 2340 pixels) resolution that refreshes at 120Hz. The imaging hardware reportedly includes a 64-megapixel primary camera, assisted by a wide-angle and depth sensor. Selfie and video calling duties will be shouldered by a 32-megapixel snapper. A 4,500 mAh capacity battery keep things running, but leaks about fast charging wattage have been a tad conflicting. Buyers will get to choose between Black, Cream, Lavender, and White Samsung Galaxy S21 FE colors.
