The gritty superhero film stars Sylvester Stallone in the lead role with director Julius Avery (Overlord) at the helm with a script by Bragi F. Schut (Escape Room), based on his comic book. The Samaritan comic was a two-issue series that debuted in 2014, published by the indie label Mythos Comics.
Samaritan takes place in Granite City, which has been run down by crime after the death of its protector, Samaritan. The hero is believed to have died twenty years prior after an epic battle with his rival, Nemesis, leaving the city unprotected. A young boy named Sam Cleary begins to suspect that his neighbor, a garbage man named Joe, may be the missing superhero in hiding and seeks to find the truth that may save the city.
Samaritan was originally set for a theatrical release, but numerous delays due to the pandemic pushed it to streaming. With a strong batch of familiar faces, Samaritan will no doubt spark interest, considering it stars a legendary actor like Stallone, as well as actors seen in projects like Euphoria, Game of Thrones, and more. Sylvester Stallone as Joe
Stallone plays Joe, a garbage man in Granite City, who befriends a young boy who suspects him of being a superhero in hiding. The iconic actor of franchises like Rocky and Rambo, Stallone has appeared in a multitude of projects throughout his career. He will next appear in The Expendables 4, as well as Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 in 2023. He makes his TV debut this fall in Taylor Sheridan’s Tulsa King series on Paramount+.
Javon ‘Wanna’ Walton as Sam Cleary
Walton plays Sam Cleary, a young, strong-willed boy who lives across the way from Joe, whom he suspects is the superhero Samaritan. Best known for his work as Ashtray in HBO’s Euphoria, Walton also appeared as Grant in the Prime Video series Utopia from Gillian Flynn. Walton recently appeared as Stan in Netflix’s The Umbrella Academy season 3.
Pilou Asbæk as Cyrus
Asbæk plays Cyrus in Samaritan, the leader of a criminal element that’s hellbent on taking over the city and realizing the original plans of the villain Nemesis. Known for the role of Euron Greyjoy in Game of Thrones, Asbæk previously appeared in the Ghost in the Shell live-action film. He’ll next be seen in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, as well as the new adaptation of Stephen King’s Salem’s Lot.
Dascha Polanco as Tiffany Cleary
Polanco plays Tiffany Cleary in Samaritan, the mother of Walton’s Sam Cleary. A single mother struggling to make ends meet, Tiffany attempts to protect her son from the local criminal element and is instantly suspicious when he befriends an old garbage man who may be a former superhero. Having made a name for herself as Dayanara Diaz in Netflix’s Orange is the New Black, Polanco has also appeared on American Crime Story, Russian Doll, and HBO Max’s recently-canceled series The Gordita Chronicles.

Sophia Tatum as Sil – Tatum plays Sil in Samaritan, the ruthless love interest and right-hand henchwoman to Cyrus. Her prior credits include Riverdale and Netflix’s I Am Not Okay With This.
Moises Arias as Reza – Aria plays Reza in Samaritan, a nasty underling of Cyrus, who makes life miserable for Sam. His prior credits include The Kings of Summer and The King of Staten Island.
Martin Starr as Albert Casler – Starr plays bookshop owner and underground author, Albert Casler in Samaritan, who begrudgingly helps Sam crack the riddle of what happened to Samaritan. He previously appeared in HBO’s Silicon Valley, the Spider-Man: Homecoming trilogy, and Freaks and Geeks.
Jared Odrick as Farshad – Odrick plays another of Cyrus’ main henchmen in Samaritan, who is particularly brutal and unforgiving. The former Miami Dolphins football player previously appeared as himself in HBO’s Ballers, starring Dwayne Johnson.
