Sam Wilson Officially Takes Over Captain America Twitter From Steve Rogers

Sam Wilson has officially taken over Captain America’s Twitter account after the finale of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. It was only a matter of time before Sam took on the mantle of one of the MCU’s most popular heroes, but the former Falcon had some things to work through first. Falcon and the Winter Soldier saw Sam grapple with the complicated legacy of Cap’s shield, passed down to him by Steve at the end of Avengers: Endgame. Marvel’s second original Disney+ series dove deep into what it would mean for a Black man to don the red, white, and blue uniform that stands for so much more than Steve Rogers’ heroism.

Initially, Sam chooses to give up the shield to the US government in the hopes that they’ll display it in the Smithsonian to honor Steve’s legacy. By the end of Falcon and the Winter Soldier, though, Sam is firmly in possession of the shield and sporting a new Captain America suit that incorporates the Falcon wings he’s known for. The journey to becoming Captain America wasn’t easy for Sam, but now that he’s in the role, his future in the MCU is becoming clearer.

In honor of Sam taking on the mantle, Captain America’s Twitter has been updated to reflect the new Star-Spangled Man. Sam Wilson is now featured prominently in the banner above the profile, wearing his new Captain America suit. Prior to the update, a photo of Steve Rogers from Avengers: Endgame was displayed in the banner. In addition to the photo, the profile’s bio has been changed from, “I’m just a kid from Brooklyn,” to “On your left,” the first words Steve spoke to Sam in Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

Although Sam Wilson has been a huge presence in the MCU since 2014, his new role as Captain America is set to take him to a new level. Falcon and the Winter Soldier‘s finale saw Sam briefly in his new suit, but Marvel has plenty more in store for him. Captain America 4 is currently in the works, set to be written by Falcon and the Winter Soldier showrunner Malcolm Spellman and there’s also the possibility of Sam popping up on Disney+ again.

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier season 2 seems likely to happen at some point, especially after the announcement of a name change during the show’s finale. Going forward, the series could be titled Captain America and the Winter Soldier if the end credits are any indication. It seems, though, that Sam Wilson will be making his solo theatrical debut first. Whatever happens, Anthony Mackie’s future as Captain America is looking bright, even if the moment is bittersweet. With The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, the MCU may be saying goodbye to Steve Rogers for good, unless those rumors about Chris Evans reprising his Marvel role prove to be true.
