Saints Row: Everything We Learned From The Gameplay Overview Trailer

Saints Row: Everything We Learned From The Gameplay Overview Trailer

The gameplay overview trailer for Saints Row was just released, and it has provided plenty of information about the upcoming game. So far it’s looking quite promising, and the preview shows plenty of the wild action that the Saints Row series is known for. However, there are a few things in particular that look to really make the game pop.

The Saints Row games are a franchise by Volition Games that enjoyed plenty of popularity during their run. While the series began as a crime-themed sandbox similar to the Grand Theft Auto games, the series quickly found its own niche in audacity. Every new title in the series was more over-the-top than the last. It eventually got to the point that in Saints’Row 4, the player character had become the President of the United States fighting against evil aliens in a computer simulation while using superpowers. After Saints Row‘s release date was delayed previously, the series looks set to finally make its comeback

Saints Row looks to take the series back to basics, at least in terms of story. However, if Saints Row‘s gameplay overview trailer is anything to go by, it may be the most explosive entry yet. There are a few details from the trailer that are worthy of note before the game comes out later this month, and plenty of reason for fans to get excited.

Saints’ Row Takes Players To A New Location: Santo Ileso

Saints Row: Everything We Learned From The Gameplay Overview Trailer

Past Saints Row games have taken place in Stilwater and Steelport. However, the new Saints Row is already establishing a new identity for itself by featuring an all-new location that instantly sets it apart from past games. In this new entry, Saints Row players will get the chance to explore the city of Santo Ileso.

src Saints Row‘s Santo Ileso is separated into districts, much like Stilwater and Steelport from games past, with each district representing a different part of the city. The trailer highlighted a few of these districts in particular. Lakeshore is a luxurious area of high-rent high-rises and businesses, while Mercado is a more industrial area with more bare streets and less glamorous housing. In addition, Santo Ileso has a feel of Las Vegas to it with flashy casinos and neon signs in places. The desert landscapes were also shown off, providing a setting that is much different from previous games.

Santo Ileso is a departure from the cities of previous Saints Row games, and one that offers plenty of flavor for the new title. Although the city is likely to be functionally similar to those from past titles, the very different artistic direction makes it pop more than the cities of past games. Santo Ileso’s desert environment in Saints Row is a new look for the series, and one that gives it plenty of character compared to past games.

Saints’ Row Features New Gangs For The Player To Do Battle With

Rival gangs have always been a major part of the Saints Row games, although the fourth title did away with that in order to focus on the alien invasion. Traditionally, the player has had to fight against three other gangs in order to wrest control of the city from them. If the trailer is any indication, Saints‘Row will be no different.

Los Panteros are a smuggling gang run out of the barrios district, led by the muscle-bound Sergio. Bulky and athletic, their members look to be very aggressive and carry heavy weapons such as sledgehammers. Meanwhile, the club district is controlled by The Idols. A gang of murderous club kids with no distinct leader, they have specialists with spinning weapons that can deflect bullets. Finally, as a compliment to the Saints Row series’ signature brand of chaos, the cops have joined the ranks of the gangs. The Marshalls are a militarized private police force that acts as a third gang. Equipped with high-tech weapons and armor, they dominate the city streets. In a surprising twist, the narrator states that the game’s main character used to work for them, raising some questions for the story.

There is another unnamed gang mentioned in the trailer that dwells in the desert, and the narrator implies that they are a bunch of LARPers. Whatever the case, Santo Ileso is going to have no shortage of enemies for the player to fight against. The gang storylines reached their peak in Saints Row 2, and hopefully the new game will be able to match those heights.

The New Entry Features Classic Saints’ Row Gameplay With A Few Upgrades

The franchise’s dynamic gameplay is coming back with some new twists, and the new generation of Saints Row looks promising. The trailer introduces the player’s crew, as well as a mysterious hitman who could be friend or foe. In addition, combat looks to be upgraded as well. However, the game’s biggest perk may be the massive depth of options available to the player.

The gameplay footage revealed several new abilities available to the player. There was plenty of footage shown of the protagonist riding the roofs of cars while firing upon enemies while their allies kept driving. In addition, a wingsuit that allows the player character to glide was also shown off. The series’ customization is also just as strong as always, if not moreso. In addition to customizing the Boss however they like, players also have plenty of options for vehicles. In particular, blades concealed in the wheels and a massive wrecking ball were shown as accessories, hinting at much more varied vehicle options than before.

Saints Row‘s expanded character customization combined with gameplay upgrades looks to be an incredible combination. The gameplay in the trailer looked to be as fast-paced and action-packed as fans have come to expect from the series, and hopefully it lives up to those standards. First impressions are looking very strong, however.

The overview trailer for Saints Row has given plenty of reason for optimism. While the setting is more grounded than SR4, the game doesn’t look to have slowed down at all from previous entries. With any luck, Saints Row will prove itself to be the best offering from the series to date.

    Summary:
After almost a decade, the classic open-world game from Volition returns as Saints Row. This fifth entry acts as a soft reboot set in Santo Ileso, a fictional city modeled after Las Vegas, Nevada. A crime-ridden empire, Santo Ileso is inhabited by three gangs, the Los Panteros, The Idols, and Marshall Defense Industries. When the player, a former member of MDI, grows unsatisfied with how things are being handled in the city, they will partner with three other partners from the other factions that have also grown disillusioned with their employer’s view of the world. Together, this group of four will build up their gang, the Saints, the way they dream it to be. Players will once again be able to fully customize their character to their liking and tackle the city how they want to while progressing through story-based missions. From cars to VTOLs, all of the staple Saints Row vehicular options also return, as well as the third-person shooting gameplay utilized in the first four entries. Saints Row releases on August 23, 2022.
