Ryan Gosling’s Incredible Taylor Swift Cover On SNL Confirms A Harsh Reality Of His New 5M Movie

During Ryan Gosling’s recent appearance on Saturday Night Live, he and The Fall Guy co-star Emily Blunt performed a version of Taylor Swift’s “All Too Well” that was not only funny, but also brought up a very interesting point about their brand-new action romance movie. On May 3, 2024, Gosling and Blunt are starring in an action comedy directed by David Leitch called The Fall Guy. In it, Gosling plays a stuntman who is in love with a movie director, and gets sucked into an actual criminal scenario. Notably, both actors played pivotal roles in 2023 movies.

For context, Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt are not only connected by their new film, The Fall Guy, but by this year’s movie award season. Both actors were nominated for Academy Awards for Best Supporting Actor and Actress due to their roles in their 2023 films, Barbie and Oppenheimer. Gosling portrayed Barbie’s “boyfriend” Ken, meanwhile Blunt took on the role of J. Robert Oppenheimer’s wife, Kitty. Both Gosling and Blunt gave incredible performances, and now they have teamed up for a new movie that hopefully will not be too affected by the actors’ recent and overwhelming success.

Gosling and Blunt break up with their 2023 characters

Of the many bits and skits Ryan Gosling did during his SNL episode, one of the best was his parody of Taylor Swift’s song “All Too Well.” The joke began as a break-up song between Gosling and his role as Ken in Greta Gerwig’s 2023 film, Barbie. Gosling made several jokes about becoming too close to Ken, and needing separation. Soon enough, Emily Blunt appeared in the scene as well, also demanding that Gosling leave Ken behind. She argued that Gosling should be promoting their new movie, The Fall Guy. However, Gosling quickly brought up Blunt’s own iconic character.

It didn’t take much prompting before Emily Blunt joined in with Gosling in singing the “All Too Well” parody. In particular, the actress sang about her role as Kitty in Oppenheimer.

Overall, the skit was very funny and expertly crafted many elements of pop culture together, from Barbie to Taylor Swift. However, the joke was more than just humor. It actually points out a very valid concern when it comes to the success of Gosling and Blunt’s upcoming movie, The Fall Guy.

The Fall Guy Won’t Beat Ryan Gosling’s Barbie Or Emily Blunt’s Oppenheimer Successes

Gosling and Blunt’s The Fall Guy cannot compare to their previous roles

Aside from being an entertaining Saturday Night Live skit, Ryan Gosling’s “All Too Well” parody openly brings up the fact that The Fall Guy will not be able to compare to Gosling and Emily Blunt’s massive 2023 roles. From the start, both Barbie and Oppenheimer were destined for numerous award nominations and critical praise, and both movies certainly achieved this. More than that, Gosling and Blunt both earned incredible compliments for their roles. Therefore, after so much attention and acclaim, it will be very difficult for The Fall Guy to even try and measure up with either Barbie or Oppenheimer.

The differences between The Fall Guy and Gosling and Blunt’s previous roles is not just about awards either. The movies are all trying to achieve very different things. Where Barbie handles important topics such as the patriarchy and feminism, Oppenheimer tackles one of the darkest moments in American history. This is quite different from The Fall Guy, which is much more about entertainment and fun rather than getting across major themes. In this way, The Fall Guy cannot possibly stand against Barbie and Oppenheimer because they are in completely different classes of movie.

Although The Fall Guy may not be Oscar material, it certainly is not a movie that audiences should pass on. With a strong cast and a unique premise, The Fall Guy looks like it will be a very good and enjoyable film. In fact, The Fall Guy’s 89% on Rotten Tomatoes proves its worth, with critics calling it fun, fast-paced, and full of chemistry between Gosling and Blunt. Furthermore, its peek into the industry makes it stand out among other action comedies at the moment.

Overall, The Fall Guy cannot measure up to Barbie or Oppenheimer, but this should not be a problem. The fact that Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt stood out in 2023 only means that their performances in The Fall Guy are sure to be amazing. And hopefully, audiences will be able to appreciate the refreshing humor and action of The Fall Guy, while also loving Gosling’s hilarious interpretation of Ken and Blunt’s riveting performance as Kitty Oppenheimer.
