Russell Crowe & Karen Gillan Face Off In Tense Sleeping Dogs Clip [EXCLUSIVE]

Sleeping Dogs is an upcoming thriller movie from director Adam Cooper. It’s Cooper’s directorial debut, though Cooper’s previous writing work includes Assassin’s Creed, Allegiant, and Exodus: Gods and Kings. This film was written by Cooper in collaboration with Bill Collage (Assassin’s Creed, Accepted), and was based on the 2017 novel The Book of Mirrors by E.O. Chirovici.

Screen Rant is excited to present a clip from Sleeping Dogs in advance of the film’s theatrical release. The clip offers a deeper look at Russell Crowe’s performance as Roy Freeman following the Sleeping Dogs trailer, and also features Karen Gillan’s Laura Baines, with the pair engaged in something of a verbal standoff. Take a look at the clip and get ready to see the R-rated movie in theaters starting March 22.

Sleeping Dogs Is A Different Kind Of Movie For Russell Crowe & Karen Gillan

The above clip showcases Crowe and Gillan in roles the likes of which audiences may not have seen them play before. In at least one of Russell Crowe’s best movies, the actor has played a detective, but here he must contend with an added twist sure to impact both his performance and the story as a whole. In Sleeping Dogs, Crowe’s Roy Freeman is undergoing an experimental treatment for Alzheimer’s disease, and the deterioration of his memory is bound to be an important aspect of the film. Crowe is known for taking on competent and strong characters, and this movie looks to see him doing the same but with a complex additional layer.

As the wide variety of Karen Gillan’s roles makes clear, the actor is incredibly versatile and can excel in comedy, action, and horror movies alike. Her roles as Nebula in the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy and Martha in the Jumanji movies point to her ability to nail a tonal balance between action, comedy, and emotional weight. With Sleeping Dogs, Gillan adds tense thrillers to her repertoire, and looks to be playing an enigmatic character that can go toe-to-toe with Crowe’s dogged Detective Freeman.

Of course, Crowe and Gillan won’t only be sharing the screen with each other in the movie. Also in the film are Márton Csókás (The Equalizer, The Last Duel), Thomas M. Wright (Outsiders), Harry Greenwood (The Nightengale), and Tommy Flanagan (Sons of Anarchy), all of whom will likely help Crowe and Gillan bring the most out of their characters. With the film releasing on March 22, audiences will get the chance to rank Sleeping Dogs alongside their picks for the best thriller movies.
