RuPaul’s Drag Race: How These All Stars 6 Queens Earned 3 Tries To Win

The cast of RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars 6 is made up of queens that earned a second shot at winning the crown after losing their first season, but several cast members of All Stars 6 earned a third try to win. The concept behind Drag Race All Stars is founded in allowing fan-favorite drag queens to redeem themselves after losing the crown their first time on the hit reality competition series. RuPaul stuck to this formula for the first two seasons of All Stars, but by All Stars 3, the original blueprint had been thrown out of the window.

Not only did the third iteration of All Stars feature the winner of a season, BeBe Zahara Benet, but it also included the first queen to compete for the crown a third time, Shangela. Shangela went home first on season 2 of Drag Race before returning to come in the top six of season 3. When 12 Dates of Christmas star Shangela received a second chance at redemption in All Stars 3, it became apparent that RuPaul wasn’t playing by anyone’s rules but her own. In All Stars 4, Ru introduced the idea of inviting All Star alumni back for another season in the form of All Stars 1 team Latrice and Manila Luzon. All Stars 6 has the most queens competing for the third time, but here’s how each of the three-time contenders has earned their spot returning to the extravagant franchise – again.

Eureka!

Eureka first appeared on RuPaul’s Drag Race season 9 in 2017. Eureka joined the series already deep within a feud with all Stars 4 winner Trinity the Tuck. Unfortunately, Eureka injured her knee during a split during the season’s cheerleading challenge leaving RuPaul no choice but to send her home. Eureka returned to season 10 with a healed knee but lost in the finale. After Drag Race, Eureka starred on HBO’s We’re Here with Bob the Drag Queen and Shangela. Eureka’s experience on Drag Race is what All Stars is made for. Although she was not the best-of-the-best on season 10, she has succeeded since the show and very well might have what it takes to go all the way on All Stars 6.

Ginger Minj

Ginger Minj was introduced to the RuPaul universe in 2015 on the show’s seventh season. Ginger delivered as the comedy queen of the season and many fans were shocked by her loss to Violet Chachki in the season 7 finale. Ginger returned on All Stars 2 but was unable to recapture the judges’ attention as she had in her previous season with the likes of Alaska, Detox, and lip sync assassin Alyssa Edwards as her competition the second time around. Ginger’s elimination was controversial on All Stars 2 as she didn’t get the harshest critiques of the bottom queens. Additionally, Ginger had only a matter of weeks between season 7 and All Stars 2, so she has something to prove on All Stars 6 with years of experience under her belt since she last competed.

Pandora Boxx

Pandora Boxx is the original comedy queen of RuPaul’s Drag Race. First appearing on season 2 back in 2010, Pandora has not had the chance to show off her comedic chops to the modern RuPaul audiences. Additionally, Pandora got the short end of the stick when she competed on All Stars 1 and was paired with Mimi Imfurst. Pandora and Mimi were the first pair sent home, meaning Pandora never really received the airtime she deserved to have a comeback. On All Stars 6, Pandora will finally have the chance to prove her worth – solo.

Yara Sofia

Yara first appeared on season 3 of RuPaul’s Drag Race back in 2011. Yara went far on her season as one of the most versatile performers. From comedy to design challenges, Yara consistently did well and landed in fourth place her first time around. On All Stars 1, Yara was paired up with All Stars 5 contender Alexis Matteo. Although Yara and Alexis did alright on the first iteration of All Stars, the team format did a disservice to every queen that competed. Yara’s creativity on season 3 and beyond has earned her a spot on the cast of All Stars 6, even if it’s technically her third time riding the fierce merry-go-round.
