RuPaul’s Drag Race: Drag Families With Multiple Members On The Show

RuPaul’s Drag Race: Drag Families With Multiple Members On The Show

Drag families are an essential part of drag culture, and many families have been featured on RuPaul’s Drag Race. A haus defines a queen’s drag style, which fans can see on the show and compare the contestants to their drag family members. Drag houses are usually complicated and span over decades, but some Ru girls are in hauses just getting their empires started.

While there have been many hauses featured on RuPaul’s Drag Race, some are better represented than others. In fact, many mothers and daughters competed on RuPaul’s Drag Race. Who are the contestants who come from the same hauses?

Pearl and Scarlet Envy

RuPaul’s Drag Race: Drag Families With Multiple Members On The Show

Season 11 contestant Scarlet Envy is the drag daughter of season 8 contestant Pearl. Pearl’s influence can be seen in Scarlet’s preference for glamour and pretty drag. Scarlet shares her mother’s love of simple, timeless silhouettes, highlighting her picturesque figure. Both queens have a knack for makeup that includes heavy contour and eye makeup that makes them look sleepy but in an old Hollywood starlet way. While Pearl is always a blonde, Scarlet sticks to her signature auburn hair for her looks.

Haus Montrese

Coco Montrese and Kahanna Montrese

There is no denying the relationship between Coco and Kahanna Montrese. Kahanna has modeled much of her drag look on her mother’s style; however, she has added a new fresh twist to her looks. While Coco did well on the show, becoming an essential part of one of the best Drag Race casts, Kahanna was the first to go home on her season. Since her time on the show, Kahanna has turned up the Montrese showgirl reputation and has become a well-respected queen in her own right.

Haus of Methyd

Daya Betty on RuPauls Drag Race season 14

The judges of season 14 immediately noticed the family resemblance between Daya Betty and her drag relative, Crystal Methyd, from season 12. Daya often received criticism that her makeup was too similar to Crystal’s. Despite their similar makeup looks, Daya and Crystal have different fashion tastes. Crystal usually aims for whimsical and kooky looks, while Daya loves to lean into her scene phase as a team and produce goth looks. The Haus of Methyd proved it is a force to be reckoned with as both members made it to the finale of their seasons.

Haus Iman

Tamisha Iman and LaLa Ri on RuPauls Drag Race season 13

LaLa Ri and Tamisha Iman competed for the season 13 crown as relatives. Tamisha Iman is a staple in the drag community and has over 70 drag children in her house. There has been some speculation over whether Tamisha is LaLa’s drag mother or aunt; regardless, the two have a strong connection. Both queens lean into the Atlanta drag style of big hair, polished makeup, and pageant looks. In the Iman Haus, excellence is the expectation, not the exception, so it’s no surprise the family has appeared on RPDR.

The Mateos

The Mateos are known for their larger-than-life personalities and polished drag. Miss Vanjie became the first eliminated queen of season 10 and earned herself one of the best catchphrases in Drag Race history. Alexis fared better than her daughter on her first appearance on the show. Both queens were allowed redemption by appearing in All-Star seasons and season 11, respectively. The pair have one of the closest mother-daughter relationships on the show, often mentioning each other in their confessionals.

House of Avalon

Symone makes a shady face in the Werk Room on RuPaul's Drag Race.

Symoné and Gigi hail from the Haus of Avalon but don’t always refer to themselves as family, but in the drag world, they are considered sisters. Gigi bases her looks on high fashion and is one of the best fashion queens on Drag Race and moments in pop culture where Symoné uses drag to express her political views and celebrate her culture. Both originally come from Kansas and don’t deny their relationship on social media or Drag Race, but they don’t go out of their way to state their connection.

NYC Queens of RuPaul’s Drag Race

While they don’t have an official name, Brita Filter, Jan, Rosé, Alexis Michelle, and Lemon of Canada’s Drag Race are all related. Most of this haus has focused on music, especially the members of Stephine’s Child. Each of these queens has an aesthetic that corresponds to their style but also coordinates with the other members; this can be seen with Jan’s signature purple and Rosé’s ever-present pink. The family is known for its Broadway-style showmanship and quintessential New York City drag style.

Haus of Davenport

Split Haus of Davenport Memebers

The Haus of Davenport is one of the most prominent in the drag world, but also on Drag Race. This haus alone has produced two winners and seven All-Stars. The members of the haus include the late Sahara Davenport, Manilla Luzon, Jiggly Calenté, Kennedy Davenport, Bob the Drag Queen, Honey Mahogany, Monét X Change, Miz Cracker, and Raja O’Hara. Bob, the Drag Queen, also claims Bianca Del Rio and Peppermint as her drag mothers.

The Davenport name is known for making excellent dancers and performers. The haus has a signature style of polish and pageantry, but some queens like Miz Cracker have broken that mold and expanded the Haus’ repertoire.

Haus of Edwards

Any Drag Race fan knows the Haus of Edwards and the queens who have been on the show. Many of the family members are included in the best episodes of All-Stars. The haus is known for their dancing skills, some that rival the Davenports, and their big personality. All the haus members enjoy sparkle and looking as “fishy” as possible. The Haus continues to add queens to their ranks, the most recent addition being Cheryl Hole. Other members include Alyssa Edwards, Shangela, Plastique Tiara, and Vivienne Pinay. Gia Gunn and Laganja are former members.

Haus of Hall

Mercedes Iman, Dida Ritz, Soju, Jaide Essence Hall, and Kahmora Hall hail from the Hall dynasty of drag. These queens have focused on fashion and having a pageant queen level of grace and polish but have proved they can excel in any challenge, especially in Jada’s case. Since their season, Soju has stepped away from drag after being accused of sexual assault, as reported by Out. However, the rest of the family continues to thrive in the drag sphere and will likely produce more RPDR contestants.

Other Relatives On RuPaul’s Drag Race
