RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars Season 7 Rules and Format Explained

Recently on Paramount+, RuPaul’s Drag Race: All Stars season 7 debuted to excited viewers, and the new season features an entirely new format. Drag Race is still gaining momentum after a decade on the air and Ru and the producers knew it was time to switch up the format, especially for the all-winners season. The queens of the RuPaul’s Drag Race spin-off’s seventh season were certainly gooped and gagged when they found out how this season would play out.

In previous All Stars seasons, the top two queens of the week would compete in a lip sync for your legacy where they battled for $10,000 and the opportunity to eliminate one of the bottom queens of the week. This major power to eliminate fellow contestants stirred up juicy drama and lead to some of the most shocking moments in franchise history. However, after multiple seasons, many feel the format has been played out. Fans were begging RuPaul to switch up the elimination format and the queen of drag listened. Let’s check out the new rules and format for the all winners season of All Stars.

In the first episode, RuPaul revealed that there would be no eliminations this season. The top two queens of the week will earn a Legendary Legend Star. Then they will compete in a lip synch for your legacy and a $10,000 cash tip, however, queens won’t have the power to eliminate like on previous All Stars seasons. Instead, the top queen will have the power to block a fellow contestant from receiving a Legendary Legend Star the following week. At the end of the competition, the four queens who have the most Legendary Legend Stars will compete in a Lip Sync LaLaPaRuza for $200,000 and the title “Queen of Queens.”

RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars Season 7 Rules and Format Explained

The All Stars cast has already seen the rules played out in their most sinister way in the first two episodes of the season. In episode 1, Shea Couleé won the lip sync and used her power to block Trinity the Tuck from receiving a Legendary Legend Star in the next challenge, if Trinity found herself in the top in the next episode. It turned out that Shea made a smart decision because Trinity slayed the Snatch Game with her Satan and Leslie Jordan impression. Trinity was in the top, but because of Shea’s block, Trinity was unable to receive her Legendary Legend Star. Trinity, however, got her revenge when the top queen of the week, Jinkx Monsoon, blocked Shea from receiving a Legendary Legend Star the following week.

This season of RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars has been the most anticipated ever–past winners of Drag Race coming together to show off why they won their season and why fans fell in love with them. It’s a relief that no one will be eliminated. The new twists satiate the need for some juicy drama while no eliminations allows the fans to watch these masters of their craft do what they do best week after week.
