Runaways Actors Confirm Start of Filming on Marvel’s New Show

It seems like almost every other week there is some new Marvel property entering production. For Marvel Studios, that has been the case with Black Panther and Avengers: Infinity War now officially beginning production, but Marvel Television is equally busy. Casting has been finalized for the leads in Cloak & Dagger ahead of filming, but it is Hulu’s Runaways that has gone a step further.

After announcing the full cast of the young heroes last week, Marvel used this week to announce the majority of the casting for their respective parents. The kids are widely unknown as expected, while those portraying the parents have varying levels of history in the business. Although reports vaguely determined this month to be the start of production, one of the new cast members has confirmed that it is actually already underway.

James Marsters of Buffy the Vampire Slayer fame has taken to Twitter to not only reveal his excitement for joining the project, but to also be the first to announce that filming is underway. In his attempt to not get in too much trouble for making this announcement, the only photo he could share was that of his trailer’s interior. Meanwhile, fellow parent Annie Wersching appeared to only further confirm this was the case saying she would do the same shortly.

Here’s the sitch. I’m filming Marvel’s ‘Runaways’! Set photos are strictly forbidden, but I snuck this pic of the carpet in my trailer… pic.twitter.com/bWOTWswhrN— James Marsters (@JamesMarstersOf) February 10, 2017

Yes! Ha! I’ll take one of mine later! ?? https://t.co/CR0RL3Rlry— Annie Wersching (@Wersching) February 10, 2017

With filming now underway, it is no surprise that Marvel made the official announcement regarding the casting of Marsters, Wersching, and others. If they had waited any longer, the chance of it being reported elsewhere becomes more likely. That said, not all spots are filled just yet as Molly Hernandez’s parents have yet to be cast, and will need to be soon if The Pride is meeting this early on.

While the stars of the show are definitively the Runaways themselves, the parents play an integral part of the story. The parents of each kid are members of a secret evil group known as The Pride, but once their kids discover the villainous ways of their parents, they group together to escape. Throughout their attempts to flee, their parents and their allies are always right on their heels. Both Marsters and Wersching could be filming scenes together if they are on set currently, but it is more likely the show begins with each family separate and on their way to the gathering that sets the story in motion. Now, we will have to wait and see when the other cast members report to set.
