Roseanne: Johnny Galecki Returning as David for Revival

After months of speculation, The Big Bang Theory star Johnny Galecki is finally set to return as David for ABC’s upcoming revival of Roseanne. Ever since the Roseanne revival was confirmed to be in the works back in the spring, Galecki’s involvement has been up in the air. Not necessarily because the actor didn’t want to return, but more due to his ongoing commitments to the aforementioned hit CBS series. Playing the lead in a show that produces 24-episode seasons is a big job, and can easily dominate one’s time.

Of course, it was Roseanne that first launched Galecki to widespread fame. He joined the series in season 4, portraying younger Conner daughter Darlene’s boyfriend and eventual husband. It’s been known for months now that young actor Ames McNamara had been cast as Darlene and David’s son Mark, named in tribute to deceased Roseanne co-star Glenn Quinn, who passed away tragically five years after the series’ original run ended. Yet, fans continued to wonder whether or not David himself would actually appear to play dad to the young man.

Thankfully, comedian Whitney Cummings – an executive producer of the Roseanne revival – posted an Instagram story overnight that included a shot of Galecki’s set chair, confirming his presence in the new batch of episodes. The image is included below, via TV Line.

For the time being though, it’s still unclear just how much of Roseanne’s 9-episode revival season that Galecki’s David will be a part of. He’s obviously going to be in at least one episode, but it’s not yet publicly known if he’ll be in more. It seems safe to assume he won’t be in all of them though, unless of course the Roseanne crew structured things so that scenes for multiple episodes could be filmed in whatever time Galecki was available to be on set.

With Galecki’s return confirmed, the entire core Roseanne cast is back, outside of the late Quinn. This includes Galecki, Roseanne Barr herself, John Goodman (Dan), Lecy Goranson (Becky), Sara Gilbert (Darlene), Michael Fishman (D.J.), and Laurie Metcalf (Jackie). Sarah Chalke – who played Becky while Goranson was going to college – will also return, albeit in a new role. It the revival performs well, one wonders if they’ll be more Roseanne in both fans’ and Galecki’s future.
