The movie stands alone from the rest of the Star Wars saga, giving its characters a unique opportunity to exist in an isolated storyline while still contributing to a momentous plot point.

The stunning cosplay was posted to Instagram by creator Emily Ann as a celebration of the movie’s anniversary. Emily’s sunny rendition of Jyn is outfitted for action, armed with a blaster and the Death Star plans. The rocky backdrop makes the cosplay look even more authentic, giving Jyn that rough demeanor befitting of the renegade hero. As Emily points out in her caption, Jyn never set out to be a hero, but rose to the occasion when she found herself in the position to make a difference in the galaxy.
Rogue One’s Tragic Ending Was Inevitable – But Created Great Characters
Since Rogue One was inspired by A New Hope’s opening crawl, anyone who had seen A New Hope had a pretty good idea about the mission’s end result: the plans would be successfully transferred to Princess Leia, but the crew of Rogue One and much of the rest of the team is tragically destroyed in the attempt. While it’s sad to watch the doomed heroes try their best to survive the mission, their fate meant that Star Wars could introduce an entirely new cast of heroes with no existing ties to the characters already involved in the famous story.
Jyn and the rest of Rogue One’s heroes had a lot of freedom when it came to their backstories and personalities. Without needing to reconcile with any predisposed plot points and knowing that each character was doomed from the start, the movie allows its characters to live out their own stories. Despite this, the movie gave birth to many pre-Death Star story ideas that honor Jyn and her crew’s pennultimate mission, including the genre-bending Andor, which tracks Cassian Andor’s journey towards becoming the Rebel asset he is during Rogue One.
