Robert Pattinson’s Next Movie Could Make 3 Oscar Firsts

Robert Pattinson’s Next Movie Could Make 3 Oscar Firsts

A new Robert Pattinson film is set to be released in 2024, and the actor’s next movie could end up making three Oscar firsts. The Academy Awards have been around for a long time, with the amount of Oscars that are awarded each year causing viewers to pick up on some patterns. It is always interesting when an Oscars record is broken, and all eyes are on Robert Pattinson’s next film, as it could end up breaking three. Even without the Oscars, Robert Pattinson’s upcoming film is exciting enough, but the potential to make Academy Awards history makes the film all the more interesting.

Robert Pattinson is a critically acclaimed actor who has appeared in all kinds of beloved films, but recent movies like Good Time, The Lighthouse, and The Batman have brought the actor to a whole new tier of popularity. Viewers are finally starting to realize what a talent Pattinson is, which is while many directors are clamoring to work with him. Pattinson’s next film will see the superstar actor team up with a critically-acclaimed director for an all-new sci-fi movie, and the project has the potential to win some serious Oscars gold, breaking three different Academy Awards records in one night.

Robert Pattinson Could Win His First Oscar For Mickey 17

One of the biggest pieces of potential news regarding the actor’s next film is that Robert Pattinson could win his first Oscar for Mickey 17. Mickey 17 is the next film from Academy Award-winning director Bong Joon-ho, with this alone making many fans of his other works excited for the film. The English-language sci-fi film will follow Robert Pattinson’s Mickey Barnes, a disposable employee known as an “expendable” who is employed by a massive company to help colonize a distant ice planet. When Mickey dies, he is reborn into another body, keeping the memories from his past life.

Despite being a critically-acclaimed actor who has given fantastic performances in all kinds of films, Robert Pattinson has yet to win an Oscar. Many audiences have speculated, however, that Mickey 17 could be Pattinson’s chance to bring home the gold, as his leading role in the film will put him in the spotlight to a much greater extent than previous films. On top of that, working with a popular director like Bong Joon-ho will cause many Academy voters to have their eyes on the film, as Bong Joon-ho already made Oscars history only a few years prior. There’s a lot of hype for Mickey 17, and Pattinson may benefit from it.

It Could Be The First Time Two Sci-Fi Movies Win Best Picture In A Decade (Or Ever)

Robert Pattinson’s Next Movie Could Make 3 Oscar Firsts

Another big potential first that Mickey 17 could cause is that, if it wins Best Picture, it will be the first time that two sci-fi movies have won best picture in a decade. Everything Everywhere All at Once is a pure sci-fi film that ended up winning Best Picture at the 95th Academy Awards, and if Mickey 17 actually manages to win at the 97th ceremony, than that means that two different sci-fi movies will have won in the 2020s. Bong Joon-ho has already directed a Best Picture-winning film once, with Parasite winning at the 92nd Awards, meaning that Mickey 17 has a pretty good chance of winning.

However, Mickey 17 winning would have implications far beyond simply being the second sci-fi movie to win in a decade. As it turns out, Everything Everywhere All at Once is the first pure sci-fi movie to win Best Picture ever. While The Shape of Water did win a few years back, it is more of a romantic science fantasy, whereas Everything Everywhere All at Once is a much more conventional entry in the genre. Mickey 17 will also be a conventional sci-fi film, meaning that it winning Best Picture would signal that the Academy is finally starting to take sci-fi seriously.

Bong Joon Ho Could Become The First Korean Director To Win Best Director Twice

While plenty of directors have won Best Director twice, Bong Joon-ho could make history by being the first Korean director to win Best Director twice. When Bong Joon-ho won Best Director back in February 2020, he was the first Korean director to ever receive the honor. Winning again for Mickey 17 would mean that Bong Joon-ho is the first Korean director to ever win best director twice, meaning that Mickey 17‘s success will be a big deal for more than just Robert Pattinson.
