Robbie Amell’s Other Movie & TV Roles: Where You Recognize The Code 8 Star

Here’s a rundown of Code 8 star Robbie Amell’s career thus far. Robbie Amell has become a familiar face on the big and small screens and he made his film debut with mediocre sequel Cheaper By The Dozen 2. A random selection of projects followed, including roles in American Pie Presents: Beta House – a sequel from the franchise’s STV era – sitcom Life With Derek and an episode of Murdoch Mysteries. One of his first leading roles of note was playing Fred in 2009 TV movie Scooby-Doo: The Mystery Begins, which was a prequel to the James Gunn penned theatrical movies.

Robbie Amell would reprise Fred for follow-up Scooby-Doo: Curse Of The Lake Monster. Intriguingly, he later appeared in a 2011 episode of How I Met Your Mother as a love interest of Robin’s named Nate “Scooby” Scooberman, so named for his dog-like body language. During this time Amell also landed a leading role on Nickelodeon’s True Jackson, VP, which followed the adventures of the title character, a teenager who is suddenly promoted to the role of vice president of a fashion company; Amell played True’s love interest Jimmy. Following the show ending in 2011, he made guest appearances on various hit shows like Revenge, CSI: NY, and Pretty Little Liars. In 2012 he also played a role in coming of age drama Struck By Lightning.

Robbie Amell landed a recurring role on short-lived sitcom 1600 Penn alongside Josh Gad and Bill Pullman but landing another lead in The Tomorrow People. This CBS sci-fi show was set in a world where the emergence of the next step in human evolution was taking place, with Amell’s character developing special abilities. Despite the intriguing premise, the series only lasted a season before being cancelled.

While Amell’s performance was entertaining, response to his episodes and character was divided.

Robbie Amell has been particularly busy in the last few years, starring in Netflix horror-comedy The Babysitter and romantic comedy When We First Met in 2018 with Alexandra Daddario. In 2019 he starred alongside his cousin Stephen Amell (Arrow) in Code 8, a sci-fi adventure based on a 2016 short film they both starred in. His most recent project is Amazon’s sci-fi comedy show Upload, where his character’s consciousness is uploaded into his ideal version of the afterlife after he dies.
