Road House 2 Already Has The Perfect Fight Scene To Honor Patrick Swayze’s Greatest Moment In The Original Movie

Road House 2 Already Has The Perfect Fight Scene To Honor Patrick Swayze’s Greatest Moment In The Original Movie

If Road House 2 happens, it already has the perfect fight scene to honor Patrick Swayze’s most memorable moment from the original movie. The remake trend keeps gaining force in the film industry, and among the most recent and successful examples is Road House. Rowdy Herrington’s 1989 action movie Road House, starring Patrick Swayze as cool-headed but tough bouncer James Dalton, got a remake in 2024 with Doug Liman as director and Jake Gyllenhaal as Elwood Dalton. Despite getting mixed reviews from critics, Road House broke records on Prime Video, becoming the platform’s biggest opening ever.

Liman’s Road House follows Elwood Dalton, a former UFC middleweight fighter who takes a job as the head bouncer of an unruly roadhouse in the Florida Keys community of Glass Key, but it turns out to be more challenging and dangerous than it seemed. Dalton soon comes across crime boss Ben Brandt (Billy Magnussen) and his people, who send psychotic enforcer Knox (Conor McGregor) to get rid of him. Despite its success and a post-credits scene setting up a sequel, Road House 2 hasn’t been announced, but if it is, it has the perfect way to honor one of Patrick Swayze’s best Road House moments.

Road House 2 Needs To Repeat The Original Movie’s Iconic Throat Rip Scene

Patrick Swayze’s Dalton Had A Brutal Throat Rip Scene

Road House 1989 Patrick Swayze's James Dalton about to rip Reno's throat out

In the original Road House, Swayze’s Dalton was tormented by memories of a man he killed in self-defense by ripping out his throat. This incident was what kept Dalton from giving in to his anger, as he knew what that could lead to, but the town’s crime lord, Wesley (Ben Gazzara), and his henchmen pushed Dalton to his limit. After sabotaging other businesses and almost killing farmer Emmett when his house was burned down, Dalton went straight to Reno, one of Wesley’s people. Angry at what they had been doing, Dalton ripped Reno’s throat out, much to Elizabeth’s (Kelly Lynch) shock.

Dalton ripping Reno’s throat out confirms that he was capable of doing such a thing, whether in self-defense or not, and though this added to his well-deserved reputation as a fearsome bouncer, it also made him terrifying. Gyllenhaal’s Dalton also had a traumatic experience that tormented him and kept his anger and impulses in control, but instead of ripping someone’s throat out, he killed his opponent in the ring as he was overcome with rage.

Although Elwood Dalton’s final fight against Knox was enough to establish him as a man to fear, despite having generally enough control over his rage and impulses, Road House 2 should take it further and give him a throat-rip scene, through which the sequel can honor Swayze’s most memorable Road House scene.

Road House’s 2024 Remake Already Teased A Throat Rip Scene For Jake Gyllenhaal’s Dalton

Gyllenhaal’s Dalton didn’t rip out a man’s throat, but Road House paid tribute to this in a subtler yet still ridiculous way. During a confrontation outside the Road House, Dalton fought some of Brandt’s men, and he punched one of them in the throat. Dalton calmly explained to the man as he struggled for air that he had broken his hyoid bone and probably crushed his trachea, giving him a slow death. This showed Dalton could cause serious damage and even kill a man with minimal effort, so Road House 2 should take this a step further.

All 5 Deaths In Road House’s 2024 Remake, Ranked By How Ridiculous They Are

The Road House remake has just as much hard-hitting action as the 1989 original, and it also has a few bizarre deaths thrown into the mix.

Both Road House movies stand out for their ridiculous yet very entertaining fight scenes, and in Swayze’s case, the throat rip is just a primer to the even more ridiculous final fight against Wesley. Gyllenhaal’s Road House also had its good dose of ridiculous deaths and the throat punch is just one of them, so the sequel would have to take the action and ridiculous fight scenes further, and a throat rip fits perfectly.
