Edenwood Continues to Build a Fascinating World

This issue continues to explore the possibilities of Tony Daniel’s Edenwood‘s world, notably establishing enchantments that Bastille uses to remain invisible to the naked eye. However, with the bulk of the world established now, there is also time to properly build upon the established characters, along with introducing new ones who look to add to the story, like Gundel and his redheaded friend who accompanies Rion and Bastille in the fight against demons. The American Revolution-inspired world continues to offer unique opportunities for fantasy struggles, mixing magic and history to welcome readers into the fold. Characters also continue to develop unique voices, with Gundel in particular already generating ‘breakout character’ energy.

Laced within the fantasy are multiple mysteries at the heart of Edenwood. How was Rion shot to smithereens last issue, only to remain alive? And how do these earlier relationships inform the story going forwards? With a war engulfing the wider world, a very personal mission for Rio, and a story taking place in multiple time periods, Edenwood continues to ambitiously expand its story and characters in what’s sure to be an equally epic and blood-soaked second issue.

Edenwood #2 is coming from Image Comics on November 29.
