Ridley Scott’s Next Movie Confirmed Following Divisive Napoleon Biopic & Gladiator 2

Legendary filmmaker Ridley Scott has signed on to helm action thriller titled BOMB amidst production of his upcoming epic Gladiator 2. Scott, who is behind such classics as Blade Runner, Alien, and American Gangster, is one of the most accomplished filmmakers around and the 86-year-old is currently showing no signs of slowing down. Following the recent release of his epic historical drama Napoleon, the director was focused on Gladiator 2, which recently resumed production following the end of the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes.

According to Deadline, 20th Century Studios, who are also behind the Star Wars and Avatar franchises, successfully outbid 10 other major studios and streamers, including Apple, Netflix, Sony and Warner Bros, to purchase the rights to the film adaptation of Kevin McMullin’s short story, BOMB. The deal, which was reportedly worth about seven figures, also involves Scott’s production company, Scott Free, who also signed on as producers alongside 20th Century Studios and will direct the thriller.

In recent years, Scott has shown a dedication to making historical epics, as his last few works have been in that genre, including All the Money in the World, House of Gucci and Napoleon. Now, with reports of the 86-year-old signing on to direct BOMB, he looks set to jump back into the world of action thrillers, as the movie has been described to be very similar to Sidney Lumet’s 1975 biographical crime drama Dog Day Afternoon and Jan de Bont’s thrilling action film Speed. Scott’s last venture into this style of filmmaking was the infamous critical failure The Counselor.

Reports of Ridley Scott’s new movie BOMB suggest that the movie could have “franchise potential and that it is likely a young actor is cast as the protagonist. While news of a new Scott action thriller would come as great news to fans of the legendary director, there’s currently no release date in sight as the movie is still in the development phase. Right now, Scott is more focused on finishing up Gladiator 2, which is set for release next year.
