Rick & Morty Sets Up An MCU Joke About To Be Proved True By Phase 5

Warning! This post contains SPOILERS for Rick and Morty Season 6, “JuRicksic Mort”

Rick and Morty season 6 sets up a hilarious joke about the MCU that is about to be proven very true. When dinosaurs return to Earth as a highly evolved sentient species who were meant to rule Earth if not for the meteor that killed their predecessors, they convince humanity to take a break and let them take over as they always should have. As such, mankind now has much more free time to do what they love: making a seemingly endless gauntlet of MCU movies.

While speaking at the United Nations in “JuRicksic Mort”, a trio of the dinosaurs tries not to criticize a list of humanity’s accomplishments: “surely there was some point between gunpowder and something called Amazon Prime that you folks had to think, ‘are we supposed to be running a planet? Wouldn’t we rather make Marvel movies?'” With a general confirming that 29 Marvel movies have been made with 14 more on the way (which isn’t far off), the dinosaurs enthusiastically encourage humanity to let go of the reins and focus on that instead of running the world, suggesting that they should round out that Ant-Man character. Hilariously, this is something that will indeed likely happen as the MCU enters Phase 5.

Rick and Morty Season 6 Continues Its Marvel TrendRick & Morty Sets Up An MCU Joke About To Be Proved True By Phase 5

This isn’t the first time Rick and Morty season 6 has made MCU references. The premiere made a joke about Rick pretending not to know who Iron Man was while he and Morty parodied Avengers: Endgame where Tony Stark is stranded in space. Likewise, “Night Family” saw Rick and Morty starting a podcast. Talking about one of their sponsors which sold boxer briefs, Rick says he bought a pair with “the raccoon man from that one movie” which Morty wrongly clarifies is Star Wars’ Chewbacca (rather than Marvel’s Rocket Raccoon).

However, “JuRicksic Mort” is the most direct reference yet with the dinosaurs propping the MCU up as the thing humanity should be focused on instead of managing the planet itself. While mankind ironically becomes discontent without having their typical societal conflicts, Rick and Morty rightfully identifies the MCU as something that would probably be given greater focus. Likewise, the army general knowing exactly how many Marvel movies have been made and how many are on the way is very humorous, spotlighting the MCU’s status in cinema, currently existing as its own dominant genre in Hollywood.

Why Rick & Morty Singles Out Ant-Man

Ant-Man and Family in Quantumania Poster

However, the perfect cherry on top is the dinosaurs zeroing in on Ant-Man as a character who could stand to be developed further. Even without humanity getting a break from managing the planet, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is set to focus more on Scott Lang’s Avenger in real life. This will make the joke funnier as a reflection of that fact, especially if Ant-Man becomes a major character going forward in films such as Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars. If so, then one of the main objectives of the world’s biggest franchise is indeed focused on rounding out Ant-Man’s character, meaning that Rick and Morty’s dinosaurs were in fact right.
