Rick & Morty Season 8’s Release Plan Doesn’t Have To Be A Bad Thing

Rick & Morty Season 8’s Release Plan Doesn’t Have To Be A Bad Thing

Rick and Morty season 8 won’t be hitting screens anytime soon, but that doesn’t have to spell bad news. The seventh season famously recast the voices of the titular duo, with many viewers wondering how seamless the transition would be. While some fans disliked the change, broadly speaking the reception to Ian Cardoni as the new Rick and Harry Belden as Morty was positive. By the time Rick and Morty’s season 7 finale came around, the two voice performers were virtually indistinguishable from those featured in prior seasons.

It didn’t hurt that season 7 was one of the stronger outings from the Adult Swim sitcom in some time. Recent Rick and Morty series have felt scattered in terms of quality and season 7 was no different, but it also offered quality episodes like “That’s Amorte” – where the origin of Rick’s family spaghetti sauce is suitably nightmarish – of the fantastic finale “Fear No Mort.” Buoyed by the overall good response to the most recent adventures, there’s every reason to look forward to season 8.

Rick & Morty Season 8 Will Take Longer Than Usual (But That’s Not A Bad Thing)

Viewers will have to wait a little while since Rick and Morty season 8 won’t arrive until 2025. This breaks a winning streak for the series, which has produced new episodes every year since 2019. It should be noted this isn’t any kind of laziest on the crew’s part; Rick and Morty’s next season is delayed due to the 2023 Writer’s Guide strike, which forced the push to 2025. On the surface, this is terrible news, but it doesn’t need to be.

The Rick And Morty Movie: Will It Happen? Everything We Know

A Rick and Morty movie has been discussed ever since the show first arrived in 2013, and over a decade later it may actually be happening.

If anything, this delay could be a bonus for Rick and Morty season 8. There were famously long gaps between seasons during the early years of the show, including the two-year wait between the finale of season 3 and the premiere of the fourth series. The consistency of the sci-fi adventure releasing new episodes every year since then has been impressive – but it’s also led to inconsistency in terms of quality. The last few Rick and Morty seasons have had a lot of episode duds, with season 5’s “Rickdependence Spray” often being considered the worst episode to date.

Why Rick & Morty’s New Release Plan May Benefit The Adult Swim Series

The previous gaps between series gave the writers more time to break stories and craft the scripts, and it’s not an accident that the earlier seasons are regarded as the best. The 2025 delay will give the Rick and Morty’s writers more time to refine concepts and stories and ensure the eighth season is as strong as it can be. Coming up with fresh ideas for a show that delights in breaking conventions or subverting expectations isn’t easy, so more breathing room could benefit Rick and Morty’s next outing in the long run.

Rick and Morty is an adventure/Sci-Fi animated series that follows the intergalactic, inter-dimensional adventures of super-genius Rick Sanchez and his less-than-average grandson Morty Smith. Rick’s daughter, Beth, his granddaughter, Summer, and his hated stepson, Jerry, also take center stage more often than not. Hailing from creators Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon, the series blends comedy with science fiction as a way of exploring a wide variety of themes aimed at an adult audience.
