Richter Belmont’s Family Tree Explained: Every Known Belmont In Netflix’s Castlevania

Along with Castlevania: Nocture’s Richter, A few members of the legendary Belmont Clan have made appearances in Netflix’s Castlevania franchise. The Belmont family tree is full of unique and interesting characters who have all experienced a wealth of threats consisting of humans, demons, and vampires. With Castlevania: Nocturne introducing the beloved Richter Belmont to the canon, it begs the question as to who else from the esteemed family of vampire hunters will make an appearance.

While it is hard to say which Belmont is the best, each whip-wielding warrior offers something different to the franchise that has helped it maintain its relevance. Castlevania‘s first season introduced newer audiences to Trevor Belmont – one of the series’ older members, while Castlevania: Nocturne brought in the younger and stronger Richter. As Netflix’s Castlevania universe expands, it may find room for even more members of the distinguished, vampire-hunting family.

7 Leon Belmont

The founder of the Belmont Clan, Leon holds the distinction of being the first person to combat the evil vampire lord, Dracula. While Leon has been prominently featured in the Castlevania video games, he appeared only in the form of a family portrait in the season 2 episode, “Last Spell.” Leon’s involvement in the show was merely that of a cameo as Trevor and Sypha’s reasoning for tracking him down was to collect Morning Star and Leon’s sword, two precious family heirlooms. While some viewers familiar with the source material might have been disappointed with Leon’s brief appearance, it at least confirms that he is a part of the series’ lore.

6 Trevor Belmont

Castlevania's Trevor Belmont

Trevor Belmont was the protagonist for Castlevania and is the direct descendent of Leon Belmont. Trevor was notable for starting the series as a jaded anti-hero due to many of the horrors he witnessed first-hand. However, upon meeting and bonding with Sypha and the vampire Alucard, Trevor overcomes his sadness in Castelvania and upholds the integrity of his family’s name. In Netflix’s Castlevania, Trevor’s expertise with the Morning Star whip was showcased with beautiful animation. Known in the franchise for being one of the most powerful vampire hunters, Trevor eventually helps defeat the vampire master Dracula and marries Sypha, bringing her into the Belmont Clan.

5 Sypha Belmont

Castlevania's Sypha Belmont

Sypha Belnades is one of the first Speakers introduced in Netflix’s Castlevania and stood out to fans on account of her distinct accent. As a Speaker, Sypha is among one of the strongest magic wielders in the series and shows exponential growth and maturity throughout the seasons. Sypha’s optimism and intelligence are two of the greatest contributing factors to helping Trevor soften up and treat people better.

Sypha’s faith in people would ultimately come in handy when she was seen helping other characters like Hector overcome their own internal battles. Sypha was a character audiences could always root for because of her pleasant demeanor and powers. Additionally, Sypha is unique in that her marriage to Trevor marked the first instance of someone joining the Belmont Clan via marriage in Nefltix’s Castlevania.

4 Juste Belmont

Castlevania's Juste Belmont

Known for his white flowing hair, Juste Belmont is a direct descendent of the powerful Trevor Belmont and Sypha Belmont and as such, Juste is highly skilled and proficient with a whip and can even use magic. However, as revealed in Castlevania: Nocturne, Juste’s magical abilities waned over time after suffering the loss of his wife and best friend. Despite being Richter Belmont’s grandfather, Juste is depicted as a depressed, elderly man living on the fringes of society.

This depiction of a once-great warrior living off the grid was a welcomed addition to a family that is typically portrayed as unstoppable. It helped viewers relate to the character more and ultimately root for his success. Despite how things started, Juste eventually comes to his senses and proves to Richter and the audience that he’s one of the most interesting characters in the series.

3 Julia Belmont

Castlevania's Julia Belmont

Daughter of Juste Belmont and mother to Richter, Julia was shown to be a fearless and strong vampire hunter who was just as skilled with a whip as her ancestors before her. Moreover, she was also shown to be someone filled with empathy as she encouraged Richter to take pride in his family’s name. As Juste’s daughter, Julia also knew magic thus implying Richter would have an aptitude for it as well. Despite being killed fairly early in Castlevania: Nocturne, Julia left a strong impression as her dying words would be the things Richter would live by.

2 Richter Belmont

Castlevania's Richter Belmont

Richter Belmont is the current protagonist in Nefltix’s Castlevania: Nocturne canon and is just as impressive in the show as he is in the video games. Among Richter’s many skills and abilities, his perpetual cunning is one of his greatest strengths as it is often seen helping him and his friends out of a jam whenever weapons can’t. Portrayed as powerful and brash, Richter is the only child of Julia, Juste’s grandson, and one of the most beloved members of the Belmont Clan.

In Castlevania: Nocturne, Richter uses the whip and his latent magic powers to help his adoptive sister Maria in the French Revolution as well as stopping the rise of the Vampire Messiah. However, considering Castlevania: Nocturne is something of a coming-of-age story, the young Richter also learns a lot about his family’s heritage and history. Perhaps the most notable thing about Richter is his ability to be a competent leader, given that the hero is often seen coordinating successful strategies against his foes.

1 Belmonts Before Richter’s Time Not Seen In Netflix’s Castlevania

Castlevania's Soleil Belmont

Christopher Belmont – The great-grandson of legendary vampire hunter Trevor Belmont, Christopher took it upon himself to brave Count Dracula’s castle when nobody else would and bested the Clan’s persistent foe. Often forgotten about, Christopher is notable for being the first member of the Belmont Clan to shoot fireballs from his hand and was also the first Belmont to watch Dracula’s castle crumble at the end of the game – something that would later become a staple of the franchise. While not as popular as his ancestors, Christopher still has the same devotion to stopping Dracula’s reign of terror as those before him.

Soleil Belmont – Another lesser-known member of the Belmont Clan, Soleil is Christopher’s son thus making him another prolific master of the whip. Interestingly, Soleil was the first Belmont to play an antagonistic role as he was at one point under Dracula’s influence in his adulthood. Never one to give up on his family, Christopher used his skills to defeat Christopher, thus breaking him free of Dracula’s curse and desperate attempt to terrorize the Belmont Clan.

Simon Belmont – Arguably one of the best-known and beloved members of the Belmont Clan, Simon is the original protagonist of the Castlevania video game series as well as the great-grandson of Trevor, great-grandfather of Christopher, and grandfather to Juste. Simon is known for ranking among the most powerful Belmonts and for popularizing many of the franchise’s gameplay elements seen throughout the games. Simon also has the distinction of being the most recognizable character associated with Castlevania media.
