RHOSLC: Meredith Marks Apologizes For Defending Mary’s Offensive Remarks

Meredith Marks from The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City apologized for defending her costar Mary Cosby’s offensive remarks after the new episode aired on Sunday night. During the episode, new cast member Jennie Nguyen called everyone aside while at Whitney Rose’s launch party for her rebranded skincare line, Wild Rose. Jennie confronted Mary about commenting on Jennie’s “slanted eyes” the episode prior. The newbie admitted she was offended by Mary’s comments and wanted her to take accountability.

However, Mary didn’t see anything wrong with what she said. In Mary’s eyes, she was complimenting Jennie and was commenting on something Mary found beautiful about her. Nonetheless, Jennie did not appreciate the so-called compliment and was insulted that Mary was so tone-deaf to believe what she said was supposed to be flattering. None of the other ladies stood behind Mary, except for Meredith, who has been there for her all season.

On Sunday night, Meredith took to her Twitter account to explain and retract defending Mary’s insensitive comments towards Jennie. “I was trying to articulate that the person/community affected by a prejudicial remark is the one who can determine whether it is offensive or not. If Jennie is offended, it is offensive, end of story and it is not up to me to determine that,” Meredith clarified while live-tweeting the brand new episode. “I apologize for not communicating this effectively and for any harm caused by my comment — my intent was truly the opposite.” Fans replied to the New York native’s tweets, questioning why Meredith was blindly defending Mary despite only having a friendship this season. Some believe Mary might have something on Meredith, while others think she fears the First Lady.

In another tweet, Meredith, who is upset with Jen Shah, said she spoke to Mary after their group conversation, hoping that their one-on-one would be more productive. She also revealed she spoke to Jennie to ensure she had her support regarding the intensive comment. Mary saw the tweet and replied about how she did not believe their conversation was “productive.” Mary even called Meredith out for being “Switzerland” between her and Jennie. Meredith has yet to reply to Mary’s comment and will likely not give her friend a reply back. Despite Meredith trying to clarify defending Mary, fans still don’t understand why she ever supported her in the first place. Mary has been offensive more than once on the show and has never shown her remorse.

Even though Meredith feels bad about not showing her support for Jennie on this week’s episode, she wants the viewers to know she does not condone Mary’s remarks. Meredith’s support of Mary got misconstrued on-screen, and she is doing her best to make things right with Jennie, even if that means forfeiting her growing friendship with Mary.

The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City airs Sundays at 9 p.m. EST on Bravo.
