Adriana De Moura and Marysol Patton are classic protagonists of The Real Housewives of Miami, and after scene-stealing performances as friends of the show in season 4, they deserve to return as full-time cast members. Marysol and her bejeweled tumbler had the best one-liners of anyone in her interviews. Meanwhile, Adriana’s continued to reign as the life of the party.
In the early years of RHOM, Marysol got married to Philippe Pautesta-Herder before accepting their impending divorce with a cigarette overlooking the ocean. After their chapter closed, her larger-than-life mother, Elsa Patton, became her life partner and accomplice in all things RHOM. Adriana was in the middle of the Mojito lineup back in the day, thanks to her larger-than-life energy. Her storyline centered on her marriage to Frederic Marq and the dissolution of her friendship with Leah Black. She’s confident, assertive, unapologetic, an endless flirt, and time hasn’t changed her.
After Elsa’s passing, the rest of the RHOM suggested Marysol was channeling her. In season 4, the demure Marysol was gone. She’d returned to the show as an alpha Cuban queen, unafraid of stirring the pot and establishing her authority over newcomers. When she suggested that the ladies play a game of “who do they trust the least,“ Marysol called out to Nicole Martin, saying, “I know a lot of people who know you, and I know what you said. You called her a hooker.” As Adriana noted, Marysol “can be the nicest girl,” but if someone crosses her, it’s over. Marysol joked while sipping from her co*k, her cheeky nickname for cocktails, that the trip was starting off hunky-dory. Without Marysol, a vacation storyline was nowhere in sight.
When it comes to Adriana, the queen of mojitos didn’t steer far from the spotlight. Adriana always knows how to steal the show, from getting naked in Larsa Pippen’s bathtub and posting it on Instagram, being proposed to by Julia Lemigova, and flirting with everyone in sight. By the end of season 4, Adriana was butting heads with Larsa just as Marysol started the season by facing off with Nicole. During a dinner with Larsa and Kiki Barth, Adriana said she accidentally walked in on Kanye West during Art Basel a decade before in the restroom and got a full frontal view. Larsa refused to entertain the ridiculous conversation out of respect for her friendship with Kanye and his ex-wife Kim Kardashian. The refusal to discuss it became a fight that dragged onto Alexia Echevarria’s bachelorette party.
Despite falling under the label of a friend of the show, Marysol and Adriana were at the heart of every season 4 event and storyline. Julia’s storyline pivoted around Adriana as Alexia’s pivoted around Marysol. The reboot simply wouldn’t have been the same without them. Bravo likely did not recast Adriana and Marysol as housewives in order to shake things up and not fall into the stale issues that got the show canceled. However, with such a significant impact on season 4 and an audience dying for more of them, The Real Housewives of Miami season 5 would be doing itself a disservice if it didn’t put Marysol and Adriana at the center stage once again.
