RHOBH: Why Kathy Hilton’s Aspen Meltdown Has To Do With Michael Jackson

RHOBH: Why Kathy Hilton’s Aspen Meltdown Has To Do With Michael Jackson

There’s been a few stories explaining Kathy Hilton’s Aspen breakdown on Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, but the real reason could be connected to the King of Pop, Michael Jackson. The show drama that occurred on a trip to Aspen may be the most talked about moment from RHOBH season 12. Even those who haven’t been watching the season have seen the drama online. While no one seems to have a straight story about what caused Kathy’s meltdown, RHOBH star Sutton Stracke claimed that Kathy became irritated at the club when none of her cast members wanted to join her Conga line.

RHOBH fans are now referring to the incident as Congagate, and show producer Andy Cohen even hosted #CongaForKathy on Watch What Happens Live, where he did a conga line with Sutton, Garcelle Beauvais, and some extras, including someone in a shark costume. However, in February, Radar Online claimed that there was a different reason for Kathy’s Aspen club meltdown that had nothing to do with a conga line at all. According to the report, Kathy’s meltdown was connected to the King of Pop. Kathy was close friends with the singer, and he spent a lot of time with her family, including her daughter Paris Hilton.

While Kathy would’ve loved to do a conga line with her RHOBH cast mates, her outrage had nothing to do with the Cuban line dance and everything to do with the Thriller singer. RHOBH star Teddi Mellencamp explained on Two T’s In A Pod that the drama started because Kathy requested Michael’s song “Billie Jean,” and the DJ refused to play it. “You know how DJs are, especially famous DJs. When they’re in the middle of a set, they don’t want some random, or even some famous socialite, coming and telling them what to play, so he said “no,” and that set her off,” Teddi said.

Teddi Doesn’t Know Why Sutton Blamed A Conga Line For The RHOBH Drama

The RHOBH star also isn’t sure why Sutton said the drama started because of a conga line, admitting that she didn’t hear anything about this. However, Teddi did praise Sutton for admitting there was drama at the club and then called out Crystal Minkoff for pretending she didn’t see the drama go down. Teddi also defended Lisa Rina, saying she was being a nice person by taking Kathy out of the club to prevent her from causing any further damage. Teddi believes Lisa’s actions were genuine, and because cameras weren’t rolling, she didn’t gain anything from being kind to Kathy.

While the real reason for Kathy’s meltdown is finally out there, it still doesn’t make much sense. Could the DJ refusing to play “Billie Jean” cause Kathy that much anger or is there an underlying reason she was so upset and the Michael incident pushed her over the edge? At least RHOBH fans know not that refusing a conga line with Kathy will not send her spiraling out of control. However, if anyone’s ever DJing at an event where the RHOBH star is present, they might want to add some Michael songs to the playlist and do as Kathy requests.

The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills is currently airing Wednesday nights on Bravo.
