Resident Evil 9 Could Bring Albert Wesker Back

Resident Evil 9 Could Bring Albert Wesker Back

Albert Wesker is an iconic antagonist that could make a grandiose return in Resident Evil 9. Although he has been presumed dead since the events of Resident Evil 5, there is a promising aspect to the reversion of this situation. And with the new development of the mold-related technology in the newer games, it might be the perfect time to bring this classic Resident Evil character back for RE9.

Wesker has a reputation for being surprisingly resilient, returning even when characters had been certain he was officially dead. He has experience surviving all types of situations, be it gigantic explosions that destroy entire mansions or dramatically falling from great heights. Wesker’s appearances also matched Chris Redfield’s, and the two seemed set to be a hero/villain duo for many other games until Resident Evil 5 made the villain’s demise official. He hasn’t been a part of the series since then, but without proper proof, there is no way to be certain about whether his death is real (or truly permanent).

Resident Evil 9 thus has a valuable opportunity to return one of the franchise’s most popular villains. Given Wesker’s affinity for tracking down new biotechnology, the new development of the powers of the mold would certainly interest him enough to come back if he were able to do so. Not only that, but since Chris Redfield’s steady role in Resident Evil‘s story has become increasingly important in recent entries, it would be a great addition to let Albert Wesker, his match, challenge him once more.

Wesker’s Resident Evil Return In RE9 Has The Perfect Setup

Resident Evil 9 Could Bring Albert Wesker Back

The appearance of new technology is one of the main premises that brings Wesker back to the franchise. In Resident Evil 4, for example, he doesn’t physically appear in the game, but he hires Ada Wong to get him a sample of the Las Plagas parasite. He later uses that sample to create the Uroboros, his final creation as of this point in the story. This premise has been set up in the latest entries of the series, establishing the mold as an interesting organism with various eugenic capabilities that can be transmitted genetically. Therefore, it can create the perfect environment for world domination and artificial selection that Wesker wanted in Resident Evil 5.

Not only that, but Wesker’s return would give Chris a proper antagonist that matches his abilities. Despite having introduced fun action-based sections in Resident Evil Village for Chris Redfield, he’s able to easily destroy all types of monsters with overpowered weapons. In previous installments, Wesker would study his methods of fighting and carefully plan his own around them, knowing that the two were bound to face each other eventually. This allowed players to face the proper challenge of combat in Resident Evil, allowing both Chris and Wesker to keep bettering themselves and their techniques in fights, and creating tension and excitement amongst players.

When Wesker fell into the volcano that presumably claimed his life, and had two rocket launcher missiles fired at him for good measure, there was no remaining evidence to prove he was truly dead. As Chris left the scene celebrating his victory, as he had done countless times before, there was no proof that the antagonist was finally gone for good. With the mold being perfect a perfect tool for Wesker to sow chaos, Resident Evil 9 has an excellent opportunity to bring back the second half of the famous Resident Evil Wesker/Redfield duo that has shaped the series so far.
