Resident Evil 4 Remake Game Art Allegedly Shared By Voice Actor

A voice actor has claimed to be playing the role of Albert Wesker in the rumored Resident Evil 4 Remake, allegedly shared confidential concept art for the unannounced game. Japanese video game developer and publisher Capcom has turned its attention to remaking original Resident Evil horror video games over the last few years, fuelling hope for a Resident Evil 4 remake alongside a host of leaks and rumors. Capcom remade 1998’s Resident Evil 2 in 2019, and 1999’s Resident Evil 3: Nemesis in 2020. Both remakes revamped the design of the PS1 originals, and led many fans to speculate if Capcom would remake Resident Evil 4 next.

Resident Evil 4 transformed the horror franchise and, arguably, the gaming landscape when it first launched in 2005. The title introduced series-first changes that have remained staples of the games ever since, such as over-the-shoulder gameplay and an emphasis on precision aiming. The game is recognized as being the first in the franchise to pivot from survival horror to action, but unlike later releases, is widely regarded to have struck a more successful balance between horror and action. According to one unverified leak, Capcom may be changing Resident Evil 4 remake’s gameplay to ensure a new release is just as groundbreaking as the original.

As reported by VGC, voice actor D. C. Douglas reportedly broke a non-disclosure agreement by claiming that he is the voice actor for the RE4 remake’s Albert Wesker, allegedly sharing unreleased concept art with several fans via direct messages on Twitter. The art, later shared by BewareCreepyVAs, is believed to show Douglas’ character in what appears to be the Separate Ways segment of the game. It’s also been claimed that, in direct messages, Douglas asked fans to not repost the artwork publicly. It has not been confirmed if the artwork shared is official, but D. C. Douglas’ Twitter account was deleted after the artwork began spreading on the social media site, perhaps lending some authenticity to the allegations.

While it’s not clear if the Wesker image is authentic, this is isn’t the first time that alleged images from the unannounced game have been posted online. Last year, what’s believed to be 3D model assets for Resident Evil 4 remake were shared, and included screenshots of roughly 80 3D models of prop items like food and candles, thought to be part of the remake’s development. The reported remake’s many leaks, along with the supposed new concept art, seems to all but confirm Capcom’s decision to remake the Resident Evil classic.

While Capcom hasn’t outright confirmed rumors of a new Resident Evil 4, it’s getting harder to dispute its existence. Capcom has previously removed content claiming to be from the game, including the 3D model assets leaked in 2020, which perhaps suggests the rumors are correct. The latest alleged leak, if true, could end up being advantageous for Capcom. If anything, the unconfirmed concept art has generated even more interest in a Resident Evil 4 remake, and fans can only hope that official confirmation will be announced soon.
