Resident Evil 3 Remake Knife Only Run Confirmed As Possible

Aspiring zombie slayers can rest assured that they will be able to complete the Resident Evil 3 remake with knife-only runs, at least according to producer Peter Fabiano. Just last week, he confirmed that it will indeed be possible to perform a knife-only run of Capcom’s upcoming reimagining of the hit zombie-survival action title.

Knife-only playthroughs, in which the player forgoes using all firearms and other various weaponry in favor of their trusty knife, has been a go-to challenge for speedrunners in the Resident Evil series. However, last year’s Resident Evil 2 remake infamously made such a run impossible due to the knife weapon breaking after too much use. Naturally, fans began to fear that this would carry over into the follow-up title, but it has since been confirmed that this won’t be the case.

Resident Evil 3 producer Peter Fabiano sat down for an interview with Game Informer late last week, during which he assured fans that it would indeed be possible to complete the upcoming remake using only the knife, as it will not break during the game. “We’re dealing with survival horror and everything is exhaustible. You run out of bullets. You run out of herbs. You run out of all the items you can use. So if you did run out of everything, what would you have? The knife,” he said during the interview. “The director always wanted to make it so that you at least have your trusty knife. That’s always something you can rely on.” He also mentioned that even the developers working on the game have completed knife-only runs, further indicating that such a playthrough is possible.

Resident Evil 3 Remake Knife Only Run Confirmed As Possible

The upcoming remake of 1999’s Resident Evil 3: Nemesis was confirmed last December, with a release date set for April 3. A playable demo of the game was released last week, showing off main protagonists Jill Valentine and Carlos Oliveira as they run-and-gun their way through the infested Raccoon City and utilize an updated control system to fend off both the swarming zombie hordes and one of Resident Evil’s most iconic enemies, the hulking bioweapon known as Nemesis. Or, if the demo has been modded, a swarming horde of Nemesis clones.

Surviving this undead apocalypse will be difficult enough, and now fans will be able to add to the challenge by playing through Resident Evil 3 using only their trusty knife to protect them. Also, even while playing the game normally, having a knife that won’t break on players when the bullets inevitably run out will certainly be a plus. However, for those who do decide to play knife only, there will come the bragging rights of surviving the zombie apocalypse of Resident Evil 3 using just a small blade of steel.

Resident Evil 3 will be available on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on April 3, 2020.
