After a 16-month hiatus, Resident Alien season 3 will make its grand return to SYFY on Wednesday, February 14. The premiere is titled “Lone Wolf” and picks up after the events of the season 2 finale. With The Greys threatening to wipe out the human race, Harry has formed a tentative alliance with General Eleanor McCallister to protect the planet that he’s grown attached to. Their mission quickly increases in urgency when they discover that Grey Hybrid, Joseph, has infiltrated the Patience Police Department.
Chris Sheridan serves as the creator and showrunner of the sci-fi series and is most well-known for his work on Family Guy. Meanwhile, Alan Tudyk stars as the resident alien himself, Harry Vanderspeigle. Tudyk has previously been featured in projects such as Firefly, The Rookie, and American Dad! The rest of the main cast includes Elizabeth Bowen, Corey Reynolds, Sara Tomko, Alice Wetterlund, Meredith Garretson, Levi Fiehler, and Judah Prehn.

SyFy’s Resident Alien is returning for season 3, with filming already wrapped, so when will the alien calling itself Harry return to screens?
Screen Rant interviewed Alan Tudyk and Chris Sheridan about Harry’s alliance with General McCallister and his relationship with Asta in Resident Alien season 3.
Alan Tudyk And Chris Sheridan Talk Resident Alien Season 3
Screen Rant: Harry has decided to team up with the General to protect Earth. If we know anything about these characters, it’s going to be an interesting dynamic. What might an alliance between them look like in Resident Alien‘s next season?
Alan Tudyk: It’s tenuous. It’s a tenuous partnership. I think her expectations of who Harry is are probably different from what she finds. Her whole life she’s been hunting for these vicious, awful, super intelligent aliens, and then she finds Harry, who has a briefcase full of pizza. The arc this season for her—I don’t think she just accepts that he’s going to fix everything.
He’s not one for working too hard. He’s a little lazy as an alien. Although, it is good for him to have the government connection, because he can just get whatever he needs from her, and he has access to their intelligence. To what humans have found out about aliens, which isn’t much. He can request things to use in his fight against The Greys.
Chris, how long did you and the writers have this team-up in mind? Did you always know Harry and Eleanor were going to work together when you brought the character in?
Chris Sheridan: It’s a great question. No. It’s funny how these shows work. They’re sort of a very organic, ever-evolving creature on their own. A lot of where we go with the show is based on how things go as you’re doing it, and what works and who has chemistry. You know that Linda Hamilton is great, but there was a point in season 2 where it just really felt like, “I want to see these two characters together and working together.”
So we built an ending where it created a situation where they had to work together, frankly, to get Alan and Linda in the same room together, because we knew it would be fun. So this is how it works. In other ways, too. In the beginning of the series, I didn’t really know what the dynamic between Asta and D’Arcy was. And I didn’t really quite know how I was going to use D’Arcy.
And then in episode 3 of the first season, when they go to that high school party, it kind of clicked, like, “Oh, they’re best friends, and they have so much chemistry together on screen that I’m really going to lean into that relationship.” So these things change. Linda is great, but it was seeing her on screen, in limited times of the different stuff with her and Alan, realizing that what we want is probably what the audience wants, which is to see these two factors together. That’s what drove that mostly.
Harry has gone from attempting to annihilate the human race to putting himself at risk to protect it. As an actor, what has it been like to play such a drastic character evolution?
Alan Tudyk: It’s been fantastic. Chris and I were talking. He was likening the first season to his development. Harry’s first season was him as an adolescent.
Chris Sheridan: As a baby.
Alan Tudyk: As a baby, sorry. And then in the second season, it’s more adolescent/pre-teen. He’s starting to make friends outside of Asta. He realizes he needs to get a bigger friend group. He starts to have feelings and starts to understand his identity as a human more—what that is, since he’s becoming more and more human, and if it’s a good thing, or it’s a bad thing. And then, also, oddly, a little outside of most adolescent humans, he does have a baby [laughs]. And he handles it about as well as many teen fathers.
In season 3, he’s fully a teen. He’s starting to have feelings. He gets to fall in love this season. He definitely has feelings this season from the very first episode. I now have access to a full range of emotions, and just like a teenager, they’re pretty intense. When he’s happy, he’s very happy, and when he’s sad, he’s crying a lot. It’s just been a blast to play that. To play a being that’s just so right there—so present in the moment with what’s happening. It’s all so new to him. That’s really fun.
How would you describe Harry and Asta’s friendship this season? They’re such a big part of the show, and fans are very invested in that dynamic.
Alan Tudyk: This season, he’s like a teen. He’s venturing out away from his big sister/mom character. His caretaker. He’s finding his independence. She’s still there taking care of him because he falls down a lot like most kids do, but she’s giving him a little space. She’s there to help. This is a big thing. We ended season 2 with them deciding to take on The Greys. He was supposed to leave the planet. Harry was given a spaceship by The Greys.
He’s supposed to leave the planet and go away, and he decides, “No. I’m going to stay, and I’m going to fight for Earth.” And there’s a Grey hybrid alien in the town, and he is sniffing around to find vulnerabilities in Harry’s life there, and one of the biggest vulnerabilities is Asta—his love for Asta. So she’s wrapped up in it, and she’s there to help. And he’s going to need everybody. That’s one of the big messages that happens this season. You’ve got to come together.
Chris Sheridan: He’s a little kinder this year too, right? Because D’Arcy’s in there now sort of hammering Harry, and Asta ends up sort of defending him.
Alan Tudyk: Right. That is new. That is a little new. Yeah, actually hammering. D’Arcy hits me with a rolled-up magazine.
Chris Sheridan: Yeah, she literally hammers him. [Laughs]
About Resident Alien Season 3
Based on the Dark Horse comics, SYFY’s “Resident Alien” follows a crash-landed alien named Harry (Alan Tudyk) whose secret mission is to kill all humans. In season three, Harry is vowing to work with General McCallister (Linda Hamilton) to rid the Earth of the Grey aliens – a task made more difficult when he discovers that the Grey Hybrid Joseph (Enver Gjokaj) has taken a job in town as the new Deputy.
Joseph isn’t Harry’s only obstacle – Harry struggles to balance business and his personal life when he falls in love for the first time. Meanwhile, Asta (Sara Tomko) and D’arcy (Alice Wetterlund) move in together and struggle to discover their purpose in the world, Sheriff Mike (Corey Reynolds) and Deputy Liv (Elizabeth Bowen) continue their quest to find out who killed the Alien Tracker, and Ben (Levi Fiehler) and Kate (Meredith Garretson) are forced to deal with the subconscious repercussions of their alien abductions.
