Red Hood’s Killer New Combat Gear Comes from a Surprising Source

Warning! Spoilers ahead for The Joker: The Man Who Stopped Laughing #12!The Red Hood has just gotten some new gear that could change his crime-fighting ways. As the war between the DC Universe’s multiple Jokers reaches its epic and explosive conclusion, Jason Todd gets his hands on an exciting new tool that could take his vigilante career to the next level.

In The Joker: The Man Who Stopped Laughing #12 by Matthew Rosenberg and Carmine Di Giandomenico, the impostor Joker recruits Red Hood for a final mission to kill the real Joker once and for all. The fake Joker baits his doppelganger with a train loaded with Joker venom headed straight for Gotham.

The real Joker attacks, and brings his ally Killer Moth with him. But Red Hood is waiting for them and Jason tackles the flying villain midair. Red Hood uses Killer Moth’s wings to fly all around the train and shoot every single henchman in his way until he can get to the engine to stop both Jokers and the out-of-control locomotive.

Things have been tough for the Red Hood lately. Not only did his worst nightmare come true with two Jokers existing at the same time, but Jason also got wrapped up in the events of “Gotham War”. After Jason sided with Catwoman’s plan to help to train criminals steal from the rich, Batman forcefully reconditioned Red Hood so that he’d feel intense fear every time his adrenaline level got too high. Jason was unable to do simple things such as running before collapsing in a state of panic. Fortunately, the Joker found a workaround by giving Jason a low dose of Joker Toxin to laugh through the fear.

Even though his body is racked with fear, Red Hood is just as good at fighting as ever (even better thanks to Killer Moth’s wings). Rather than push himself to keep up with a runaway train, Red Hood just glides through the air, using his fantastic hand-eye coordination to take down every henchman in his way. Sure, flying isn’t generally Jason’s (or many Bat-Family member’s) style. But Red Hood takes to it really well and he’s able to save the day thanks to the assistance his temporary gear provides. Jason gaining some kind of flying tech would arguably make him a much better crime-fighter.

Red Hood Could Be Even Better with Flying Gear

Red Hood is naturally athletic and he was trained by one of the best martial artists in the world. But even Jason’s moves are bound by the laws of physics. A jet pack or some other kind of flying technology could be a godsend for the vigilante. He could take out enemies from the sky before they even knew what hit them. It’d also be a great tool to have against other aerial villains in Gotham such as Man-Bat or Firefly. Sure, Jason would get along just fine sticking to the ground. But if his brief time with Killer Moth’s wings prove anything, it’s that Red Hood could do quite well with flying tech.
