Red Dead Redemption 2 Nvidia DLSS Comparison Shows Off New Upgrade

Today, July 13, Rockstar Games rolled out the previously announced Nvidia DLSS update for Red Dead Redemption 2, allowing owners of GeForce RTX PCs and laptops to truly take advantage of all the open-world game has on offer. Rockstar announced the free PC update during an Nvidia keynote early in June, promising to deliver stunning graphical and performance enhancements.

As revolutionary AI rendering technology, Nvidia DLSS (Deep Learning Super Sampling) works in tandem with Tensor Core AI processors on RTX GPUs to significantly elevate a game’s graphical performance. Such technology also opens the door for boosted frame rates, which are known to heighten the overall experience in myriad ways. Multiple developers have already tapped into the power of DLSS, with notable titles such as Rainbow Six: Siege and Call of Duty: Warzone receiving DLSS support in recent months. Rockstar Games represents the latest studio to explore the possibilities in this regard.

Thanks to the newly implemented Nvidia DLSS update, Red Dead Redemption 2 players with access to GeForce RTX laptops and PCs can see a boost that “accelerates performance by up to 45% at 4K.” To tout “the magic of DLSS,” Nvidia shared a comparison video showcasing the differences between Red Dead 2 when its running with DLSS on and off. The results are impressive as all GeForce RTX players can run the prequel at 1920×1080 at 60+ frames per second. PCs equipped with GeForce RTX 3060 Ti or higher are capable of hitting 2560×1440 at over 60fps. And users with a GeForce RTX 3070 GPU or faster can expect max settings to top 3840×2160 at 60+ frames per second, according to Nvidia. The game’s image quality is at its best with the new update, too. Apparently, toggling these features is as simple as going into the Graphics tab under the Settings menu.

With the performance and graphical boosts, enabling the Nvidia DLSS update will undoubtedly constitute the best way to play Red Dead Redemption 2 on PC. And a cursory glance suggests Rockstar Games left no stone unturned while tinkering with the update’s capabilities.

Now that PC users have access to a boosted version of the award-winning title, one question continues to linger – will PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S receive updates that enhance Red Dead Redemption 2 on consoles? That much remains a mystery, but Rockstar does have a GTA V update in the works for current-gen hardware; thus, maybe all hope isn’t lost for Red Dead Redemption 2.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is out now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One platforms.
