Red Dead Redemption 2 Animal Details Are Depressingly Accurate

Animal details in Red Dead Redemption 2 are so painstakingly accurate, deer can get their antlers tangled together, just like in real life. As much as it is a story-driven video game about the self-destructive gangs of the Wild West, Red Dead Redemption 2 is also a simulator of those forgotten times, with miles of untamed wilderness to explore and hundreds of different animals to observe and hunt. Upon its release in late 2018, Red Dead Redemption 2 was met with praise for its open world setting, a place where players could live and find something new to look at around every corner. While not set directly in a real life location, Red Dead‘s Old West possesses a sense of authentic Americana that pervades every moment of the game.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is full of small details, many of which the players may never notice, that add a sense of reality compared to other video games. Much of this immersion comes from the game’s animals, which are incredibly realistic. From the audio and the animation to the sheer level of detail on display in the character models, animals in Red Dead Redemption 2 are shockingly lifelike. That’s a trait which only adds to the mixed feelings that comes with killing and skinning a hunting target for resources and money, making actions feel weighty even in story-adjacent gameplay.

The world of Red Dead Redemption 2 is so full of intricate detail, new discoveries are still being made, even nearly two years after the game’s initial release. In the latest revelation, a Reddit user discovered that deer can get their antlers entangled while sparring. This can actually happen in real life, and if the deer can’t untangle, they will starve to death.

Amazing detail: bucks got tangled while sparring, one is dead. When this happens in the wild, they will normally starve. from reddeadredemption2

The ten-second Reddit video does not show the actual battle between the two deer. Instead, the player sees the aftermath, with one deer dead on the ground while the other struggles to untangle its antlers. Fortunately, the deer is able to break free and scamper off, leaving this particular nature story with a less depressing ending than it could have had.

There are stories in Red Dead Redemption 2 scattered everywhere. By this point, many of those stories have already been seen and documented, but it’s hard to imagine Rockstar’s epic has truly given up all its secrets. With constant updates made to Red Dead Online, the game’s multiplayer mode, new content is being added to the game at regular intervals, and with new content comes new stories for players to discover. Hopefully, however, some of it is a bit more cheery than this depressing Red Dead Redemption 2 animal detail discovery.
