Rebel Moon Part 2 Tease Is A Huge Relief For Child Of Fire’s Most Underused Character

While the teaser for Rebel Moon: Part Two — The Scargiver doesn’t reveal too much about director Zack Snyder’s highly anticipated sequel, it does hint at a more substantial role for a character who was criminally underused in Rebel Moon: Part One — A Child of Fire. The first half of the epic space opera debuted on Netflix in late 2023 to mixed results. Although Rebel Moon‘s derivative sci-fi story didn’t impress critics, the action-packed outing did hit Netflix’s top ten list. Since Rebel Moon: Part One was exposition heavy, The Scargiver promises to deliver a climactic resolution.

A Child of Fire centers on Kora (Sofia Boutella), an ex-Imperium soldier who’s made a farming colony on the moon of Veldt her new home. When the imperialistic Motherworld sends the sadistic Admiral Atticus Noble (Ed Skrein) to Veldt, a rebellion is set into motion. Noble leaves some troops and a “Jimmy” robot (Anthony Hopkins) behind to oversee the harvest; despite Jimmy’s programming, the robot defects from the Imperium to save a villager. This prompts Kora to round up an impressive roster of warriors so that Veldt is prepared to stave off Noble in Rebel Moon: Part Two.

Netflix’s Rebel Moon Part 2 Teaser Hints At More Jimmy In The Scargiver

Rebel Moon‘s cast of characters who form Kora’s resistance squad include her long-time friend Gunnar (Michiel Huisman); ex-Imperium general Titus (Djimon Hounsou); cyborg swordmaster Nemesis (Doona Bae); warrior Darrian Bloodaxe (Ray Fisher), who falls in battle; Tarak (Staz Nair), a nobleman-turned-blacksmith; and Kai (Charlie Hunnam), a mercenary who turns on the rebels. Notably, Jimmy, a sentient mechanical knight who once served the late king, isn’t formally part of Kora’s allianceyet. After defecting from the Imperium and saving Veldt farm girl Sam (Charlotte Maggi), Jimmy befriends his new acquaintance.

Even so, the compelling robot knight doesn’t get much screentime in Rebel Moon: Part One. However, the character’s cliffhanger ending, which sees Rebel Moon‘s Jimmy the robot donning antlers, implies that the ex-knight will join the rebellion in The Scargiver. Netflix’s teaser supports this notion: aside from action shots and a few glimpses of Kora, one of the more substantial trailer moments centers on Jimmy. With Kora’s group back on Veldt — and with the fight coming to the farming colony in Part Two — it’s clear that Jimmy will feature more prominently in Rebel Moon‘s sequel.

How Anthony Hopkins’ Jimmy Could Be Vital In Rebel Moon Part 2

Rebel Moon Part 2 Tease Is A Huge Relief For Child Of Fire’s Most Underused Character

In Rebel Moon: Part One, it’s implied that Jimmy can no longer fight. The mechanical knight’s long-time directive was to protect the royal family, including Princess Issa, who was prophesied to usher in a new era of peace. Despite Jimmy protecting Issa with “everything that dwells inside this metal skin,” she was seemingly assassinated during Balisarius’ (Fra Fee) coup, hence Jimmy’s inability to fight. However, Part One briefly confirms that Jimmy’s warrior ways aren’t entirely gone when the robot takes up arms to save Sam — a moment that spawned Rebel Moon theories to link Sam and Issa.

After gifting Jimmy a crown-like daisy-chain, Sam touches the robot’s faceplate, which glows. The implication is that Sam unlocked something within Jimmy. By the end of Rebel Moon, Jimmy dons antlers — an indication that he’s not only taking up the mantle of knight again, but joining the Veldt rebellion. Blessed with life-bestowing abilities and connected to a supposed era of peace, Princess Issa could very well be alive, whether she’s connected to Sam or not. Clearly, Jimmy’s Rebel Moon: Part Two — The Scargiver role is crucial to both the looming fight and the galaxy’s future.

Rebel Moon: Part Two — The Scargiver will debut on Netflix on April 19, 2024.
