Reacher Season 2 Just Delivered Alan Ritchson’s Most Brutal Kill To Date

Warning: Major spoilers for Amazon’s Reacher season 2 below!

Reacher season 2’s second episode gives Alan Ritchson’s title character his most brutal kill to date. The long wait for the second season of Reacher is finally over, with season 2 adapting Bad Luck and Trouble. The story kicks off when Reacher learns that some of his teammates from his old army unit are being murdered, so he reunites with the survivors to get revenge. As with the first season, Reacher’s investigations involve some Sherlock Holmes-inspired logical deductions mixed with broken bones and headshots.

Amazon’s Reacher established that with the title character, everything is about efficiency. He’d rather not fight at all, but if he has to, Reacher’s brutal fighting style – which includes a lot of headbutts and elbows – tends to end arguments quickly. If being chased by gunmen, Reacher has no issue shooting them in the back either. As with season 1, the case he’s looking into is personal, so when he gets attacked by assassins, he doesn’t hold back.

Unlike its predecessor which took a while to establish its premise, Reacher season 2 makes it clear from the get-go that this new mission is personal.

Reacher Drowning An Assassin In Wet Cement Is His Most Brutal Kill Yet

Reacher drowns an assassin in wet cement in Reacher season 2

Case in point is Reacher season 2 episode “What Happens in Atlantic City,” where he and ex-colleague/love interest Dixon (Serinda Swan) are chased into a construction site by three killers. Reacher and Dixon make relatively short work of their would-be assassins, though the former reserves an unpleasant fate for the final hitman. After a short brawl, Reacher forces this assassin’s face into wet cement and holds him there until he drowns.

Even Dixon seems unnerved by this, though she does quip “Damn Reacher, when we were kids we just wrote our names in it.” Again, Reacher is always looking for the quickest way to end a fight and will use whatever weapons are at hand. Unfortunately for this particular assassin, he fell next to some wet cement and the end result was obvious. Instead of leaving the bodies out in the open, Reacher and Dixon later dump them in cement too.

Reacher’s Cement Drowning Tops His Nastiest Season 1 Kill

Reacher and Kliner Jr. fighting in Reacher

The vast majority of Reacher’s kills in season 1 involved guns or knives, but he occasionally got creative. During one battle on a fire escape, Reacher used his tie to wrap around the neck of a killer before leaping off the escape, using the tie as a noose to strangle the assassin. Reacher’s nastiest season 1 kill was saved for KJ Kliner (Chris Webster), who he burned alive during the finale.

Considering all the torture, mutilation and death Kliner caused up to that point, some viewers still think he got off lightly. Reacher’s cement drowning in season 2 is going to be difficult for the character to top, though since he still has to find the person responsible for his friend’s being murdered, there’s time for him to overachieve in that area.
