Reacher Interview: Maria Sten, Serinda Swan & Shaun Sipos On Having Jack Reacher’s Back

Jack Reacher returns for Season 2 of Prime Video’s popular series, Reacher, and this time, he’s brought backup. When members of Reacher’s old team, the 110th MP Special Investigations Unit, are mysteriously murdered, the remaining members of the squad team up to bring justice to those responsible… And by “bring justice,” we mean killing them in brutal and delightfully satisfying ways.

The members of the 110th accompanying Reacher are played by Maria Sten, reprising her role from Season 1; Serinda Swan, who has unresolved romantic tension with Reacher; and Shaun Simos, whose character is an erstwhile hunky himbo who traded his bachelor lifestyle to become a devoted family man (but he’s still an absolute beast with a switchblade). Together, their presence lends Reacher Season 2 more of an ensemble vibe than its predecessor, though the title character is still front and center as the driving force behind all the action and tactical espionage shenanigans.

While promoting the release of Reacher Season 2, Maria Sten, Serinda Swan, and Shaun Simos were interviewed by Screen Rant. They discuss their role on the show, acting as Jack Reacher’s backup, and getting to dive deep into the show’s violent and physical sensibilities.

The Cast Of Reacher Talks Season 2

Screen Rant: The 110th! You guys are “the squad,” you’ve got Reacher’s back. Did you do any, like, military training together? The stuff where you run drills and you tap each other on the shoulder and say, “clear!”

Maria Sten: We wish! We were just talking about that. Sort of, “man, we wish we would have had time to do proper training.” But we all have backgrounds in physicality. Shaun used to be a boxer, Serinda was a gymnast, I was a dancer. And I think, as for me, I was doing a lot of research in terms of the military aspect. The tactical aspect of it. And I did, you know, ask a lot of questions from my stunt team, who are also well versed in that kind of world. We wish we could have done it all together, but I think we came at it from our own kind of research.

Serinda Swan: And also, the thing was, was that we did it on the day.

Shaun Sipos: Yeah.

Serinda Swan: Like, it was amazing. While part of it, I would complain, the other part is that they were like, we just know that you guys are able to do it. So it was, like, on the day, you do this, you tap, you clear. We had to clear a house once, and they just give you exactly what it is. We feel unprepared, but when you watch it back, you’re like, “we kinda look like a bunch of badasses!” We were really concerned. You never want to emulate someone else’s profession and not do it properly, especially if you’re supposed to be at such a high level as we are. So the training was definitely there. But do we wish we got to be here for two months beforehand, all hanging out? Yeah, 100% that would have been amazing.

Screen Rant: Your cohesion doesn’t extend to just action scenes, it’s also in the investigation and learning about your guys, about your characters. That force of will, that’s kind of the defining trait of the Reacherverse to me…

Serinda Swan: I love that!

Screen Rant: Can you talk a little bit about stepping into the world and adjusting to those sensibilities?

Shaun Sipos: Yeah! The first thing to realize is that the Reacher world is not just a world of bubbles and seahorses. It’s a brutal world where we are annihilating bad guys. So that’s a lot of fun! And, ya know, like Maria said, we all have our respective backgrounds that allow for a certain athleticism that we each put into these characters. So you’re getting to see that on display, which is a lot of fun and feels good at the end of the day because you have a certain comfort with it, you know?
