RE Village Mod Swaps Out Chris Redfield for Die Hard’s John McClane

PC players who want to try something a little different in Resident Evil Village can now access a mod that replaces Chris Redfield with Die Hard‘s leading man, John McClane. The Bruce Willis character has received a good bit of love in games of late, recently appearing alongside Rambo in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War’s 80s Action Heroes event.

McClane’s role in a Resident Evil Village mod counts as just one of the many ways in which modders continue to experiment with the latest horror adventure from Capcom. One popular mod that surfaced following RE Village’s May 2021 release made the already hulking Lady Dimitrescu even taller. Another replaced protagonist Ethan Winters with an older version of his daughter Rose and introduced a third-person perspective option. Just recently, yet another mod swapped out Ethan’s character model for Leon Kennedy, allowing players to venture through the titular village as the iconic Resident Evil 2 hero. Now it’s Chris Redfield’s turn to receive a substitute.

Through Nexus Mods, Resident Evil Village players on PC have the ability to download a mod that replaces Chris Redfield’s character model with one for Die Hard’s John McClane. Users will first need to install Fluffyquack’s Mod Manager, copy DieHard_Village.rar in .modmanagerGamesRE8Mods, then activate the mod to play. DSOGaming posits the McClane character model is one inspired by Bruce Willis’ appearance in Live Free or Die Hard, the action franchise’s fourth installment. Regardless, it’s a pretty convincing mod as shown in the video below from YouTube channel Darkness Valtier.

The video above showcases Die Hard’s John McClane in a few notable Chris Redfield scenes and it works fairly well. That could be because the scenes take place at night, perfectly obscuring any potential imperfections. But it’s still an impressive character swap, perhaps one of the best to come from Resident Evil Village’s modding community, thus far.

Resident Evil Village hit stores this past May, once more placing players in the shoes of RE7 star Ethan Winters. It proved a meteoric success, too, managing to shift an impressive three million units after just four days on the market. These figures, and those relating to Monster Hunter Rise, carried Capcom through its best Q1 sales period to date.

Resident Evil Village is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
