Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart Goes Gold One Month Ahead of Release

Developer Insomniac Games just confirmed that Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart has gone gold with about a month left before release. Sony and Insomniac unveiled Rift Apart during last summer’s PlayStation 5 reveal event, showcasing stunning visuals, new gameplay mechanics, and the then-mysterious female Lombax, Rivet.

Rivet and the franchise’s extra bells and whistles have spent their fair share of time in the spotlight over the last several months. In fact, the new playable character featured heavily in Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart’s most recent gameplay videos. The same holds true for the intriguing Rift Tear mechanic, a fresh facet of the game world that will allow players to shift from one dimension to another at almost instantaneous speeds. And according to Creative Director Marcus Smith, Insomniac developers managed to further improve Rift Apart’s loading in the late stages of development.

In a charming Twitter post, complete with a ‘Gone Gold’ Trophy-popping gif, developer Insomniac Games announced that Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart has officially gone gold. Thus, the game is ready to be manufactured, packaged, and shipped to stores. It’s worth remembering, however, that Insomniac may continue working on the game, tackling bug fixes and the like – all of which could arrive in the form of a day one patch.

Fortunately, the project’s new status suggests a delay is out of the question, unless Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart joins Cyberpunk 2077 as one of the rare titles to receive a delay after going gold. With the early summer release right around the corner, Rift Apart will launch within roughly one year of its initial announcement. It’s a good time for Ratchet & Clank faithful.

Fans of Insomniac should be especially pleased with the studio’s output of late. Once Rift Apart hits stores, the crew will have shipped two of PlayStation’s most significant releases since the PS5 launch – the other being the cross-gen adventure Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales. Rift Apart also warrants recognition as the new console’s third true exclusive. Demon’s Souls arrived with the PS5 last fall, then Housemarque’s rogue-lite Returnal made waves at the end of April. On the heels of positive press and a world of hype, it’ll be interesting to see how well Ratchet & Clank’s new features fare with the audience.

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart comes to the PlayStation 5 this summer on June 11.
