Rainn Wilson Would Love To Do An Office Reunion Episode

Rainn Wilson is the latest The Office cast member to endorse a reunion. Even though the show went off the air in 2013, The Office hype was resurrected when it was added to streaming giant Netflix. The show accrued a new generation of fans and consistently scored the highest ratings of any non-original Netflix series. With countless fans watching and re-watching The Office, it has become arguably more popular than ever. This has inspired a movement for a The Office reunion or even reboot.

Wilson played the infamous Dwight Schrute on The Office for all nine seasons that the show was on the air. Dwight was the office power-hungry kiss-up known for going along with a zany plan his boss Michael Scott came up with— no matter how dumb that plan was. He was disliked by many of the characters on the show. He was the butt of Jim’s practical jokes, dismissed by Michael, and scarred his coworkers with infamous power grabs like the disastrous fire drill. However, he became a fan favorite for his quirky nature and iconic quotes.

According to Collider, Wilson would be more than willing to participate in a The Office reunion. Wilson explained that he has even suggested the idea to The Office creator Greg Daniels himself. He shared that he thinks it’s not only something that he and the rest of the cast would enjoy doing but something that the fans would love. He believes that the strongest argument in favor of doing a reunion is that they could recreate the characters and moments beloved by fans. Now that The Office will be moving to NBCUniversal’s Peacock, he believes this is a perfect time.

“I’d love to revisit The Office. I’ve told [creator and showrunner] Greg Daniels that I would love to do something. They’re gearing up for putting it on Peacock. Maybe someday we’ll do something. It’s funny, I hear things like, ‘We can’t do anything because we ended this show perfectly, and we don’t wanna do anything else.’ But then, someone will send some idea that’s just preposterous and I don’t know what to think. Hopefully, one day. The fans would really love it. That’s the thing that counts the most. The fans would really love to see those characters again and have an experience with them.”

Many other cast members have weighed in on the reunion rumors. Although The Office has launched busy careers for most of the cast, many of them have said they would take the time to revisit their roots. John Krasinski has reportedly expressed that he would love to do a reunion of the show that boosted his career. Angela Kinsey is also on board for a reunion. Creator Daniels has hinted that while there will already be some new The Office bonus content when it moves to Peacock, that he hasn’t ruled out the possibility of a reunion on top of that. With how many cast and crew members have addressed a potential reunion, one will likely be in the works in the near future. Peacock has already positive reception after announcing reunion specials and reboots like the Saved By the Bell reboot, Battlestar Galactica reboot, and Parks and Recreation reunion specials.

However, not everyone is on board for a reunion. The show’s star Steve Carell has voiced that he doesn’t want the show to be revived. He and the minority of people who are against reunion make some fair points. The Office was perfect as is, and messing with perfection is a dangerous game. Daniels has also made it clear that if a reunion were to happen, all of the characters would remain precisely the same as fans remember them. The reboot/reunion craze is becoming redundant, but as one of the greats, The Office shouldn’t be left out of the trend. Fans will have to keep their eyes peeled on Peacock to see if a reunion ever drops.
