A new image from the long-awaited A Quiet Place Part II reveals Emily Blunt’s new underground hiding place. Director John Krasinski’s follow-up to his well-received 2018 thriller A Quiet Place has faced a longer than expected road to the big screen thanks to the coronavirus pandemic. A Quiet Place Part II was originally scheduled for March 2020 and was mere weeks away from release when theaters across the globe began to shut down. Paramount pushed it back multiple times, and it currently remains slated for release on May 28. With Paramount already planning for a streaming release 45 days later, A Quiet Place Part II just might stay there.
A Quiet Place Part II picks up after the events of the first film, which ended with newly widowed mother Evelyn Abbott (Blunt) bracing to protect her children from the monsters who killed her husband (Krasinski). In this world, these monsters are blind, but drawn to any kind of noise due to their enhanced hearing. Therefore, in order to stay alive, everyone has to be very, very quiet. Save for a quick flashback to the day the monsters arrived, A Quiet Place II will push Evelyn and her kids (Noah Jupe and Millicent Simmonds) away from their home and out into the world in search of a new save haven.
As part of USA Today‘s summer movie preview, a new image from A Quiet Place Part II has been revealed. It shows Blunt’s Evelyn hiding in a bunker that should, theoretically, be safe. However, based on the look she’s casting over her shoulder, it might not be secure as it seems. She also appears to be hiding with someone, though only a foot can be seen. Check it out below.
Newcomers to the Quiet Place series include Djimon Hounsou and Cillian Murphy. Very little is known about either of their characters, but the film’s early promotional efforts have hinted there’s much to discover. The bunker in the above picture was glimpsed in A Quiet Place Part II‘s trailer, and it looks like it belongs to Murphy’s Emmett. His path collides with the Abbott family’s while they’re running from one of the creatures; it will be interesting to see how they interact with one another.
A Quiet Place Part II will arrive on a wave of high expectations thanks to the first movie, but it remains to be seen how it will perform amid the pandemic. With vaccines continuing to roll out across the country, there have been signs of recovery at the box office, and an eagerly anticipated thriller like this one could help improve things even more. Box office analysts have even said A Quiet Place Part II‘s opening could match the first movie’s, which would be quite a feat these days. We’ll get a better idea of how this one will do in just a few weeks’ time.
