Quicksilver’s Brutal New Power Is Too Gross to Have Appeared in the MCU

Warning: Contains SPOILERS for Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver #2! Quicksilver’s time in the MCU was short-lived, and his supposed interdimensional return was a mislead, meaning he didn’t have time to show off all the incredible abilities his mutation offers him. In Marvel Comics, however, Quicksilver is much more of an established character, and his powers are fully fleshed out – including an all-new ability that just debuted in his latest comic adventure. However, even if Quicksilver did have more time in the MCU, it’s unlikely this particular power would have made the cut, as it’s equal parts brutal and gross.

In a preview for Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver #2 by Steve Orlando and Lorenzo Tammetta, the villainous Wizard and his evil minions, the Frightful Four Hundred, are hunting Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver with the intent of killing them. While Scarlet Witch is in New York dealing with the Wizard directly, Quicksilver is at the Grand Canyon fighting the Frightful Four Hundred, where he displays an all-new attack: a ‘sonic flick’.

After Quicksilver was thrown a mile into the air via an anti-gravity disk, and then created two vortexes by spinning his arms around at ludicrous speed to cushion his fall, he was met with the barrel of a gun held by a murderous member of the Frightful Four Hundred. So, rather than simply running away from this villain, Quicksilver did something he’d always wanted to try. Using his middle finger and thumb, Quicksilver flicked his fingers so hard and fast that it created a sonic blast that immediately incapacitated the villain. Unfortunately, it also broke Quicksilver’s fingers.

While Quicksilver is known as the fastest hero on the Avengers (especially in the MCU), one other hero just stole that particular title for themself.

Quicksilver’s New ‘Sonic Flick’ Power Breaks His Fingers

Quicksilver broke his fingers after doing a new attack.

Quicksilver’s ‘sonic flick’ attack is insanely brutal, not only for the person he’s using it against, but for himself as well. To pull it off, Quicksilver has to willingly break his own fingers, as his body can’t handle the blast that his speed creates. It’s clear that this is an attack Quicksilver won’t be using every day, but it’s a great one to have in his arsenal.

This issue showed Quicksilver doing the ‘sonic flick’ for the first time against a lone assailant. He was testing his ability against someone he could have easily beaten if the attack didn’t work. But, now that Quicksilver knows that it does work, he can use it against a great number of villains at the same time if he ever finds himself surrounded by overwhelming forces. Sure, he’d break his fingers, but he’d also unleash a sonic blast that would clear multiple enemies simultaneously, while also creating a path for his own escape.

Even If Quicksilver Returns in the MCU, This Attack is a Bit Too R-Rated

Both versions of MCU Quicksilvers.

Self-harm isn’t something a family-friendly cinematic universe like the MCU would want to advertise, even if it is for the sake of a new ability for one of its heroes. Self-sacrifice is heroic – which is something Quicksilver actually did do in the MCU – but self-harm is perhaps a little too intense. Powers that require one to hurt themselves is something fans are used to seeing in series like The Boys, where the content is decidedly R-rated. However, even though it’s a cool attack, something like Quicksilver’s ‘sonic flick’ could likely never happen in the MCU, even if Quicksilver did make his MCU return.

While a live-action debut of this brutal attack is unlikely, Quicksilver’s ‘sonic flick’ has found a home in Marvel Comics, thereby adding yet another ability to his already impressive mutant powers (even if it is too gross/R-rated for the MCU).
