Quantum Leap Trailer Reveals Reboot’s First Time Travel Destination

A newly released teaser for NBC’s Quantum Leap reboot teases Raymond Lee as Ben Seong during his first chaotic time-traveling adventure, which lands him in the Gulf War. The revival is a continuation of the NBC sci-fi series that aired from 1989 to 1993. Quantum Leap is set to premiere on September 19th, 2022.

The original Quantum Leap series followed the wild time-traveling adventures of Scott Bakula’s Dr. Samuel Beckett, a quantum scientist who tests his theories of time travel on himself. While Sam’s technology works, it is also flawed, meaning that rather than fully emerging in the past himself, he instead leaps into the body of a random individual at a random point in time. With the guidance of Dean Stockwell’s Admiral Al Calavicci, Sam must solve a mystery or resolve an incident involving the individual he has “Lept” into in hopes of returning to his own time. With Blindspot creator Martin Gero acting as showrunner for the revival, the upcoming season of Quantum Leap will feature a new cast facing their own time-traveling misadventures, with a newly released teaser offering a glimpse at one of the show’s destinations.

As shared by E! Online, a new teaser clip has given a brief tease of one of the historic periods that new protagonist Dr. Ben Seong will visit in the upcoming season. In the clip, Ben briefly cycles through a number of periods, before settling on 1991. Caught in the midst of the Gulf War, Ben has “Lept” into the role of a paratrooper during Operation Desert Storm. High above Kuwait in a military aircraft, Ben is given little time to adjust to his new surroundings, as he is pushed out of the plane. Check out E! Online‘s clip through the link below.

While many specifics have been kept under wraps, details about the Quantum Leap reboot were revealed by former showrunner Deborah M. Pratt in April 2022. During an interview, Pratt revealed the name of Lee’s new central character and stated that the reboot’s pilot episode is incredibly faithful to the tone of the original series. While it is currently unknown whether any of the original cast members may return in some capacity, Ernie Hudson was cast as Herbert “Magic” Williams, the leader of the Quantum Leap project Lee is a part of. Williams is currently the only returning character from the original series, as he first appeared in the original series’ third season as a Vietnam veteran that was originally played by Christopher Kirby, creating a firm connection between both series.

With Quantum Leap set to debut in September, the recently released clip has given viewers a glimpse of what to expect from these new time-traveling hijinks. With the Gulf War being an ongoing event during the original series run, the clip confirms that the show would tackle little-explored events that the original show only briefly touched upon in later seasons, as well as the ambitious scale of the series’ presentation. With Ben being new to time travel, it is clear by the clip that his first few trips will be quite a shocking experience.
