In Punisher #9 by Jason Aaron, Jesus Saiz, Paul Azaceta, Matt Hollingsworth, and VC’s Cory Petit from Marvel Comics, the Punisher takes on Ares and his army, defeating the God of War and taking his soldiers for his own. As the Fist of the Beast, Punisher fully embraces his role with The Hand, and when his ninjas start killing the “worst of the worst” across the Marvel Universe, Moon Knight reports to his fellow heroes about their former allies’ powers. However, a team, which includes Doctor Strange, Black Widow, Wolverine, and Captain America, quickly realizes the Punisher has become an Avengers-level threat they have to deal with.
Punisher Has Evolved Into A Supernatural Killer In The Marvel Universe
As the Highslayer of The Hand, Punisher has gained incredible powers as the Fist of the Beast, agreeing to be the organization’s ultimate killer in exchange for resurrecting his wife and the promise of his kids also being brought back to life. Punisher has traded his guns for a sword and his fists for supernatural powers, which include deadly energy attacks and flight. The more time Frank Castle has spent with The Hand, the stronger his powers have gotten – with his recent defeat of Ares showing he’s reaching his true potential as the Fist of the Beast.
The Avengers going after the Punisher reveals the little trust the team had in the antihero has completely disappeared. Even Captain America shares that he always hoped that Frank Castle could be saved but admits it’s time he “accepts defeat” over those beliefs. With Punisher’s new powers and control of The Hand, the Avengers have no choice but to get involved.
Stopping the Punisher won’t be easy for Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, as his supernatural power and army as the Fist of the Beast will be difficult obstacles to overcome, even for the strongest heroes in the Marvel Universe.
