PS5 Price Drop Predicted To Come Six Months After Release

PS5 Price Drop Predicted To Come Six Months After Release

Based on data for previous Sony consoles it has been predicted that the PlayStation 5 will receive its first price drop six months after release. This price drop will most likely not come from Sony itself, but rather the retailers selling the console. This could prove to be pretty good news for most gamers considering that the PlayStation 5 is the most expensive Sony console to date.

Already the PlayStation 5 has proved to be notoriously difficult for players to get their hands on. When the console was first available for pre-ordering there were a wide array of issues as sites crashed and it becomes very apparent that there weren’t going to be enough units to meet demand. These issues continued throughout the pre-ordering windows for the PlayStation 5 and have now continued into the launch. Yesterday retailers like Walmart had release windows that enabled users to order online, but each time slot sold out almost immediately.

According to iPrice, it is fairly likely that the PlayStation 5 could drop in price by its six-month mark. Typically around that time is when retailers begin giving out discounts with summer sales events or other similar sales events. In the past, many Sony consoles have been discounted by roughly 6%, which could save users about $30 on a single console. More than that though by the year mark the PlayStation 5 could receive another 8% decrease which would save players almost $70 altogether.

Keep in mind though that these discounts are not official ones from Sony itself, as a price drop from the company would most likely take much longer. It took Sony nearly two years after release to announce a price drop for the PlayStation 4, and that was only about a $50 savings on the console. It wouldn’t be surprising to see Sony wait that long as well to slash the price of the PlayStation 5, especially considering how well it has been selling at its current price.

At the end of the day, these predictions about price cuts aren’t set in stone. Many things could change between now and six months from now that could see the PS5 stay the same price or drop even lower than the models have predicted. The only way to know what will truly happen with the PlayStation 5 price is to just wait until there is an official announcement.

The PlayStation 5 is now available for purchase.
