PS5 Controller Makes The PS4’s Immediately Forgettable, Says Pete Hines

The PlayStation 5 controller makes the PlayStation 4’s version of the DualShock immediately forgettable, at least according to Bethesda’s Pete Hines. The new PS5 controller was just unveiled to the public earlier this week but has already proven to be both an enticing and controversial piece of hardware. Fans are happy with the increased functionality and new features like a built-in microphone and the inclusion of haptic feedback, but many are split on the new DualSense color scheme.

Unlike the last three iterations of official PlayStation controllers, the initial release will be in a two-toned white and black color scheme, as opposed to the solid black of PS2, PS3, and PS4 controllers. This has led to something of a split in the PlayStation fan base, as some have embraced the sleek new design of the DualSense controller while many others have created all kinds of PS5 controller themes and fan art emphasizing how much more colorful and vibrant the hardware’s look could be.

One person who is happy with the design of the new PlayStation 5 controller is Pete Hines, Vice President of Public Relations and Marketing for Bethesda Softworks. On Twitter recently, Hines spoke about using the PS5 DualSense controller and how much the haptic feedback and new adaptive triggers impressed him. According to Hines, “games are going to do some really cool things with them.” Check out his original message below:

When asked by another Twitter user if the new model felt different when compared to the PlayStation 4’s DualShock controller, Hines replied, “You sort of immediately forget about a PS4 controller.” Apparently, during his time with the new model Hines had both versions on hand, as he followed up his previous statement by saying, “I went back and forth between them and you immediately just want to use the PS5.”

Hines comments should prove reassuring for longtime PlayStation fans worried about the increased size of the new PS5 controllers. Despite multiple comparisons to Microsoft’s Xbox controller, Sony appears to have delivered a new piece of hardware which it hopes will help move the medium of gaming forward. Haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, and built-in microphones are all things players have been asking about for a very long time, and despite some calls by fans for a change of color the response to the PS5 controller’s reveal has been overwhelmingly positive. Hopefully, Sony will use this momentum to keep unveiling specifics about the PlayStation 5 as the console’s Holiday 2020 release window gets closer. People are still waiting to find out what the thing looks like, after all.
