Project: Playtime Trailer Reveals First Look At Terrifying New Monster

MOB Games’ Poppy Playtime spin-off Project: Playtime is set to release next month, and a new trailer showcases gameplay and what Playtime Co. toys players could encounter. Project: Playtime is a multiplayer horror experience where players work together to escape the terrifying Playtime Co. factory and the horrific creations within it, all while discovering even more Poppy Playtime lore. After a few months of hidden secrets alluding to Project: Playtime and a release window reveal, fans are finally getting the first looks at MOB Games’ free-to-play co-op title – and the terrifying new monster, Boxy Boo.

While fans are still awaiting Poppy Playtime Ch. 3‘s 2023 release, Mob Entertainment has posted the first Project: Playtime trailer. Fans have finally gained some insight into what all a Poppy Playtime symmetrical horror game will entail, including a brand new and disturbing Playtime Co. monster. While the colorful “Resource Extraction Specialists” are seen failing to escape Huggy Wuggy and Mommy Long Legs (the main monsters from Ch.1 and Ch. 2 of Poppy Playtime, respectively), the final player faces up against a jack-in-the-box creature. Project: Playtime‘s Steam page lists the new cube-shaped monster as Boxy Boo, and players will have the opportunity to be attacked by Boxy (and play as it) on December 6, 2022, according to the new trailer.

Poppy Playtime: Chapter 3 Set To Release In 2023 – Is Boxy Boo In It, Too?

Project: Playtime has a hard job to do, as it will need to meet Poppy Playtime‘s fans’ high expectations, which unfortunately didn’t happen upon the release of Poppy Playtime Chapter 2. The gameplay will be similar to that of Poppy Playtime, with players utilizing Grab Packs to solve puzzles and uncover mysteries as they traverse through Playtime Co. Factory and escape monsters. However, players can expect overlaps with other asymmetrical horror games such as Dead By Daylight and Evil Dead: The Game, since one player will take on the role of Huggy Wuggy, Mommy Long Legs, Boxy Boo, and any future evil toys that will be added.

A co-op title is a big leap for the franchise and may once and for all set Poppy Playtime apart from FNAF, which has many various installments but has yet to include a multiplayer game. If Project: Playtime‘s release is successful, it may also boost Poppy Playtime‘s popularity once again, after the somewhat conflicting release of Chapter 2. Dead By Daylight, Evil Dead, and Phasmophobia are similar titles and reached massive hype upon their respective launches, so fans are hopeful that Project: Playtime will revitalize the franchise even before Chapter 3‘s eventual release. Now, the question is whether or not Boxy Boo will be featured in Poppy Playtime Chapter 3.

Beyond the ability to play co-op, Project: Playtime is likely to expand upon the mysterious Playtime Co. Factory and the series’ in-game lore. Poppy Playtime and all of its related content, including the Poppy Playtime ARG, are full of secrets for fans to uncover, and yet there are still more questions than answers about the player’s role and what exactly has happened in the factory. Beyond fighting for their lives, the “Resource Extraction Specialists” (and those playing the horrifying monsters attacking them) may discover more about the origins of Poppy, Huggy Wuggy, and even Boxy Boo in Project: Playtime.
