Princess Bride Set to Get a Wave of Action Figures From McFarlane Toys

McFarlane Toys has finally revealed its line of figures based on The Princess Bride.  The toy company founded by comic artist Todd McFarlane has previously teased the line of collectibles inspired by the hit romance-adventure flick. The line will feature characters from the film in their best-known outfits.

The Princess Bride is an iconic cult film, becoming a much-loved classic following its release in 1987. The film follows the romance of farmhand Westley (Cary Elwes) and Buttercup (Robin Wright) as they overcome evil princes and pirates, framed within a bedtime story told by a grandfather to his grandson. The figurine line was first announced in October 2020, but now the company has finally revealed the official range.

McFarlane Toys posted a first official image of the line on the company’s Instagram account. The line-up features fully articulated figures of Westley in his Dread Pirate Roberts outfit, Buttercup, Inigo Montoya (Mandy Patinkin), and Fezzik (André the Giant). The company also revealed that pre-orders would open later this week. See McFarlane Toy’s post below.

Though the film only had a modest box office taking, it has found a place in the hearts of many fans. Star Mandy Patinkin recently connected with a fan over his character in an emotional video shared online. A filmed-at-home remake of The Princess Bride was also released on Quibi in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic, with stars such as Hugh Jackman, Javier Bardem, Adam Sandler, Sophie Turner, Charlize Theron, and Elijah Wood (to name just a few) reenacting the film using their phones at home.

The Princess Bride joins McFarlane’s catalog of lines based on hit films. The company has previously released figures based on 2021’s Dune and The Suicide Squad, as well as toys based on animated series and video games such as Avatar: The Last Airbender.
