Prince William Appointed New Title From the Queen Amid Harry & Meghan’s Exit

Prince William was given a new title by the Queen after Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s exit. Prince William has gradually been given more and more responsibilities over the years to prepare him to eventually take the throne and now with his brother no longer serving as a senior royal member, he’s stepping up even more.

The royals are currently going through a transitional phase, following some not-so-private personal matters surfacing in the public eye. As the future King of England, Prince William has been bred from a young age to keep a stiff upper lip when it comes to his personal or public business. Since his brother has decided to step aside from the royal family, the future king has had more responsibility on his plate.

The father of three can now add one more title to his repertoire according to USA Today. Queen Elizabeth II assigned a new title to her eldest grandson on Saturday by anointing him Lord High Commissioner to the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland. Buckingham Palace tweeted the news that Prince William would continue to carry out his other duties as the Duke of Cambridge while also serving in his new position which would be only for one year.

The palace described that the holder of the role is usually given to a person of Scottish descent, but members of the royal family have also served in this particular position in the past. The role of The Lord High Commissioner’s role is to maintain the relationship between the State and the Church. The prince will serve as Queen Elizabeth II’s envoy at the General Assembly. The new title came only a week after Buckingham Palace announced an agreement was reached with Prince Harry and Markle that included the loss of their “royal highness” titles. After the couple dropped the news that they would step back as senior royal members the Queen shared information about the couple’s future, saying that she supported Prince Harry and his wife. The parents of Archie Harrison had decided that they would split their time between Canada and the United Kingdom.

Even though the couple does not want to rely on public funding anymore they now have to pay back the taxpayers for the £2.4 million that they used to renovate their Windsor house that they will still use as their English house. The couple almost lost their Duke and Duchess titles, but the Queen did not want to seem petty as Prince Harry is still sixth in line to the throne. Regardless of what Harry and Meghan have moved on to do, Prince William is the Queen’s grandson that will be taking on the bulk of the responsibilities now.
