Pretty Little Liars: 10 Times We Really Questioned The Rosewood Police Department

Pretty Little Liars: 10 Times We Really Questioned The Rosewood Police Department

The hit show Pretty Little Liars gave fans everything they wanted and then some. There was a sisterhood of friends, played by some amazing and attractive actresses. There were steamy relationships. There was mystery the entire time, as everyone wondered who A was. And there were exciting episodes that usually ended with cliffhangers.

Due to the nature of this teen drama TV show, the cops were involved quite a bit of the time. And we really questioned the Rosewood Police Department… on more than one occasion! So let’s look back at some of the major issues that were present within this place of work.

Why Did They Hate On The Main Characters So Much?

Pretty Little Liars: 10 Times We Really Questioned The Rosewood Police Department

As the title of this series suggested, there was a good amount of lying going on, but that was part of A’s game; the girls were constantly being blackmailed, so they could never fully come clean about anything to anyone. Still, they seemed to always be at the top of suspect lists, as they were always tangled up in these messes, in one way or another.

It wasn’t until they were abducted and put into the dollhouse that the police realized that there was someone else bad out there. Even after this big event, though, the cops were still not very nice and friendly and still put a lot of pressure on the girls!

Specifically, Why Was Wilden So Horrible?

Hanna and Wilden standing in the kitchen on Pretty Little Liars

The good cop, bad cop trope is an age-old one, but Detective Darren Wilden was playing horrible cop at all times. While investigating Ali’s murder, he started up a relationship with Ashley Marin and pestered the girls.

Did sleeping with someone so close to the case seem like a good idea? No. Did every interaction with these high school students have to be so hostile? Absolutely not.

And Why Did He Have To Dress As The Queen Of Hearts?

pll wilden queen of hearts

As fans know, Darren Wilden was one of the Queen of Hearts on the Halloween train, along with Melissa Hastings. There were so many issues with this plot point. First off, it seemed like only high schoolers were on this train, so even if he and Melissa had dirty work to do, they could have waited until a different time. Secondly, the thought of that tall man in that frilly costume is a bit silly. And thirdly, this proves he was all over the place, on all the wrong teams and not a good fit for the PD.

How Many Cops Go Around Taking Each Other Out?

Not every person gets along with everyone else, and this is especially true when it comes to coworkers. Still, cops are supposed to be this united front, representing the town and fighting for justice.

Yet on the Halloween train, Darren Wilden murdered Garrett Reynolds, another employee of the Rosewood Police Department, who came with his own problems, which will be discussed down below.

Who Was In Charge Of Hiring Beach Hottie Anyway?

pll wilden beach hottie

Oh, and then there was the really big reason that Detective Wilden should not have been on this case: He slept with Ali!

One minor mystery for a bit of time was who Alison’s Beach Hottie was. It turned out to be Wilden, and it turned out that Ali even had a pregnancy scare after spending time with him. Sure, they may have not come up in his interview, but Rosewood was a small town. People talk. It seemed like any besides this dude could have taken the case.

Do These People Not Have A Course On Boundaries?

Detective Wilden hooked up with Ashley Marin. Detective Holbrook and Hanna kissed. And Clark Wilkins asked Aria out on a date.

This was a photographer Aria met and an undercover cop. He took a picture of her, she did not like that, so he asked her to dinner. Aria had to awkwardly tell him no, and soon after, her friends saw him at the wrong place at the wrong time, thinking he was bad news. Nope, it turned out that he was just another questionable cop in town.

Is It Normal To Have So Many Crimes Committed By Law Enforcement Professionals?

pll garrett arrested

As mentioned, Garrett Reynolds was another Rosewood police officer who was working on Alison’s murder case. In a weird turn of events, though, he actually got charged for both Ali’s and Maya’s murders. The charges were dropped, but he was still not a good guy.

So is it normal to have so many crimes committed by law enforcement professionals? Maybe it is, because in the quiet and quaint town of Rosewood… things were not quiet and quaint!

Isn’t Conflict Of Interest A Thing?

pll garrett and jenna

There was something else wrong with the fact that Garrett worked for the PD, and that would be his relationships. In high school, he was in the N.A.T. Club with Jason DiLaurentis and Ian Thomas, and he dated Jenna Marshall and Melissa Hastings.

Again, it was a small town, so everyone probably had some sort of connection. Yet his just seemed too close to the case, in our opinion!

Are There No Older Women In Rosewood?

pll Holbrook

The show was called Pretty Little Liars, and the liars were very pretty. Surely, though, there were some older women, women in their 30s maybe, who lived in the area and were also cute…?

Several of these cops seemed to have a thing for the wrong people, including the high school students they were investigating. Detective Gabriel Holbrook, for instance, was working on Darren Wilden’s and Alison’s cases. Hanna kissed him, which she knew was not right, but then he kissed Ali! He at least and surprisingly got suspended for that.

Did They Actually Ever Solve Any Crimes?

Obviously, Rosewood was a sort of haunted place, and so many crimes happened there. How many did the cops solve, though? Just look at how much detective work was done by Ali, Spencer, Aria, Hanna and Emily… by Mona… by Caleb, Ezra and Toby (off the clock/unofficially)… by CeCe even!

Thankfully, by the time this TV show, sadly, ended, everyone had all the answers to all the biggest questions… no thanks to the Rosewood Police Department.
