Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #102 by Melissa Flores and Simona Di Gianfelice picks up with the Rangers facing off against Mistress Vile in Lord Zedd’s lunar hideout after receiving a distress call from their intergalactic enemy. The Power Rangers villain demonstrates her new power over a weakened and prostrate Zedd, ripping off his faceplate in the ultimate act of domination as revenge for his betrayal. While most of the Power Rangers manage to escape with Lord Zedd in tow, it’s clear that the dynamic between the two opposing parties will never be the same again – and all because of a simple mask.
As an Eltarian, Zedd wasn’t always so frightening a sight. Sharing many similarities to Zordon before his downfall at the hands of Rita, Zedd – once known as Zophram – was once a tall and majestic, teal-skinned warrior prior to becoming the horrifying monstrosity the Power Rangers have defeated time and time again. And now that his Earth-bound enemies have seen his true appearance, there’s no chance they’ll ever look at him the same way again.
Lord Zedd’s True Face Changes His Relationship With the Power Rangers
Part of what makes Lord Zedd such an imposing Power Rangers villain opponent is his terrifying appearance and the presence that comes with it. The iconic ’90s villain has an undeniably striking look that’s equally iconic as he is, and while it looks unsettling enough to the audience, it has to look even more discomforting to those who oppose him in-person. But now that the Power Rangers have gotten a look through this veil at the weakened and vulnerable mortal beneath, Zedd’s presence can’t possibly have the same effect.
The Power Rangers have plenty of enemies, but not many are as iconic as Lord Zedd. And with his true visage revealed, it’s clear their dynamic can never be the same. But regardless of what Lord Zedd truly looks like, there’s no doubt that the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers will always be there to stop him in their BOOM! Studios comic series.
